My new T4R/Build/Restore thread

Picked her up on Friday, 1988 SR5 3.0 5spd. Plan is to get her to the point I can use her as a second vehicle to keep miles off my WRX (leased), plus do some camping, light wheeling (I'm in Texas, starting to forget what rocks look like), and maybe some expo stuff down the road.

Not my first 4x4... used to wheel a 94 Cherokee 4x4 back when I lived in Los Angeles. Thought about buying another one but I can't stand to buy something I already owned. Looking forward to learning from ya'll and sharing some of my knowledge too.

My 4runner parked next to my daily toy... I think they compliment eachother nicely

The PO had taken the rollbar out. Yesterday I was able to get it back into position, but unfortunately he lost the hardware so its not bolted in yet.

I bought some M12 bolts after reading on here that that's the size to bolt the rollbar in, but they're way too big. Anyone else have a suggestion on the size? I'm thinking maybe an M6?

i thought they were m8 or m10 by 1.25 but thats out of memory the bolts for your topper are m8 or m10 so thats a good judging point

Looks nice and clean! Have fun with it. The 3.0 is a good motor if you keep it tuned and clean.

M8's it is. Got the bar bolted in. Now I just gotta get the thing registered and I can actually drive it.

That one looks good, would actually love to find one that nice to have as a second car. The one I have now will be parked at the hunting club so I can drive the car back and forth.

Ordered a few parts last night.

New leather shift boot to replace the ugly stocker.
Oil pressure sending unit. The gauge works and will move when you turn the electrical on but reads a constant 0psi when running.
Ecu relay. It was 10 bucks and might fix my code 11 so why not try it.

Tomorrow I'm off work so I'll spend a little time checking out the ground wires, recover the armrest, and see if I can get my driver side power window working.

I'd also like to detail up the interior, maybe even pull the rear carpet to give it a good wash. And of course now that I bolted the rollbar back in I think it needs a new coat of paint.

Looks like a great starting point, islander! The whole rig looks really clean. Like the WRX, too--I KNOW I could have some fun in that beast! Slow on the trails, or fast on the pavement, I like any kind of driving.
