My Next "Gotta-Have-It" Mod : ARB Locker

Well, I've amassed enough funds for one of my larger undertakings (dollar wise and modification wise), and have decided on a selectable ARB air locker. I'm gonna buy the high output ARB compressor and an ARB locker for the rear axle. I am, how you say, super excite!!:guitar3:

My first two concerns are these: installation and compatibility. I have an '02 that has all those fancy electronic nannies like VSC and TRAC -- will these interfere with the operation of the locker? Also, what components should or do I need to beef up to run an ARB compressor? How much could be installed with a few buddies and their tools?

More then likely your buddies and you can install the compresor and the lines for the locker. Depending on experiance and "know-how" you may have to bring the rear third into a shop for them to install the locker.

On a side note, have you looked into yukon's new locker? same concept as the arb but a few pennies cheaper.

If all your going to lock is the rear axle, I would retrofit an E-locker. It will be about the 1/3 to 1/2 (used) the price of the ARB. If any of your buddies can weld, it can be done in a few hours. If nobody welds, then for a little more money, and entire axle can be swapped out and that is something that can be done with some buddies and hand tools.


On a side note, If your are determined to get the ARB locker, then you might as well re-gear (for your bigger tires) while it is apart. Then do the front to compliment it.

I've already replaced my e-locker motor twice. If I hadn't cut into my diff houseing it'd be swapped out for an ARB.

x2 Since you're basically doing a re-gear on the rear, now is the time to re-gear both ends and you'll be money ahead in the end.

I don't have the money for that full 3rd swap, but depending on the price of the gears I'll probably just stick with an ARB locker. My next set of tires are gonna be in the 265/75 flavor, even with my lift prob.

you could also get the Yukon Zip locker. Its basically an arb, but its from Yukon and its $200 less. They just released the toyota v6 diff version

don't overlook the install kit...it'd suck to have it all taken back apart because you wanted to save $200
