I would have gone through VSC off at like 30 in my 2WD, even alone lol. No need to worry about being stuck. You'll get out eventually, lol. I mean really. What's not to love about spraying mud EVERYWHERE? To OP, looks like a great time!

My tour guide has a lifted 3rd gen with pretty big tires. He went through it balls to the wall and was bouncing and sliding all over the place. I figured there was no way I'd make it through but 4lo got me up the hill. When I got to the top he asked me if I locked the center diff, I totally forgot about it. I used it a lot after that, it makes a huge difference. I learned why traction control is sometimes horrible. I need to wire in a switch to bypass the nanny modes, I had to pop the hood and unplug it to get up a tougher hill later in the day. My 4th gen felt huge out on the trails, they both had 3rd gens and got around a little easier than I did. I used to have a 3rd gen but never took it off road. I still like the 4th gen WAY better, and I was really impressed with what I made it through.

Just FYI: locking your center diff turns VSC off, which is what I believe you referring to as a “nanny modes”.

I still recommend doing VSC mod any way, but just wanted to point out that locking center dif defeats “VSC “as well.

Looks like a blast! LBL isn't too far from me, I want to make it out there sometime. The vsc switch does come in handy..I got lucky and mine came with one from the factory since it's an 08 :thumb:

Yeah but even with VSC off traction control was still shutting me down and not letting me spin when I needed too. Unplugging that harness or wiring in the switch turns them both off. I don't have a traction control off button in mine like some of these newer ones do.

Yeah I've seen you post. There's a lot of Toyota guys from your area that come to LBL.

I dont' know, I'm pretty addicted to cycling so usually when I go to LBL I bring my mountain bike, or my road bike... sometimes I bring both...

Did you have the center dif locked? That is all I have to do on my 03 to let the tires spin fast without the traction control kicking in..

Yeah, 4lo center diff locked, VSC off but traction control is still active. I just have the daystar budget boost lift on the front with 265/70/17 open country at2 tires on fj wheels and spidertrax.
