My old 4Runner - 487,000 miles

Here are a few pics of my 1989 4Runner. It's on the original engine - 75 all day long - no problem. I'm currently trying to sell her due to a new girl friend (a gray 2004 4Runner SR5). But, after seeing the 1 gen's topless, I'm having second thoughts.

These first 2 are from St. Augustine Fla - a 2006 vacation that was a blast. The gray clouds were from a late season tropical storm.

This is from this spring in the N. GA mnts - The grade was something like 15% - barely made it. Loaded down and in 1st gear - my electric fan's thermostat decided to quit working.

The first 2 were a Nikon 8400 - it's a 8 MP advanced compact that has a 24 - 85 equivalent zoom range - sweet point and shoot with advanced (manual) features. I also have the accessory lens that is equivilent to a 17 mm superwide. This camera also has a hot shoe - it was an awesome camera that was way overpriced at around $1000 - I got one on clearance for $500.

The 1st photo was heavily redone in photoshop elements. I separated the truck from the background and adjusted the exposures - this was my first try - lots of fun.

The second one is pretty much as is.

The third pic was any number of Nikon's - the 8400, D40, or D80

that looks REALLY good for having 400k+ on it! WOW nice!

I use a Nikon D80 with VR lenses and I have ALL the extras :D
 
Awesome 4Runner! I'd avoid selling it if it were mine. You just don't see a great looking vehicle like that everyday.
 
KEEP IT MAN!! That thing looks great for that many miles. And with so many on the odo you will never get as much as it is worth to you.

Nice 4 Runner. I always like the 1st gen. Runners. Its a classic and you should keep it for another 400k miles. After you pass a million miles you can sell it back to Toyota USA.

Keep it! I sold my 87' a few months ago and I really miss her a lot. Don't get me wrong, I love my 4th gen but there's something special about driving a mint condition 1st gen. I will own another one in the future!

Man - that one looks better than mine - how many miles and what did you get for her? How did you keep the rust away in Rhode Island?

I'd like to get 3-4000 but I think the miles will scare most away. :confused:

Thanks, yeah it was pretty mint. She had only 90k miles and she hasn't seen a New England winter in 10 years. Always garaged and well taken care of. I sold her for $6500.00 and wish that I didn't. I will travel out west or down south to find another one eventually. I have owned 4 first gens and that one was by far the nicest. Yours looks to be in really good condition too. If you can't get what you want I personally wouldn't sell it!

Well - I sold her - a guy from Chattanooga adopted her yesterday. He's going to garage keep her and take good care from what I can tell. He's a nice guy that has a 2.5 year old daughter. He does some wheeling with his brother and sold his Xterra. It'll be a hobby truck and the engine will likely last him 5 to 10 more years. I'm glad someone that appreciated the truck bought it. I'm planning on doing some wheeling with him and his family this spring - I'll be in the 2004 'runner.

Now to go start another project!!!! :cheers:

It's a sad / happy kind of feeling.
