My "reliable" t4r isnt very reliable

On the steering rack, did you ever replace your guide rack roller with the newer guide bushing? On pre-01 it usually cures the wandering steering feeling.

Here I am thinking that wandering steering is just out of alignment.

I have felt a lot of random wandering post-alignment (I have lifetime @ Firestone), I'm guessing I need more than just my steering rack bushings done (Which were done w/ poly) :P

Thoughts?

My wandering is due to the ruts in the damn freeway. My tires are justttt wide enough to ride just outside of them, so any left to right movement sends me out of the rut, and makes me look like I'm drunk. You should see it when I'm drunk. :lookout:

Mine has 143k and live in Ohio. I reset my computer and have since driven ~50 miles city and highway with no light...that worries me even more. Haha. Just praying it's nothing worse than a solenoid IF it comes back. I baby my truck and the fluid was dark when I flushed it all but nothing to cause concern.

I use mine as a DD except weekends. I own a 2014 mazda 6 and 3 bikes so I DD all of them haha.

Mines got 310k on it. I had to replace the suspension because it wasn't tall enough. I did have to have the rear end rebuilt at about 301k, but it was only bearings (surprising with the amount of noise it was making). Some trucks need love sooner than their exact counterparts. If you live in the rust belt this is especially more true. Those are not very large items you've had to replace really, I don't see a reason to be too upset. It does suck when a few things hit all at once though

You guys are making me feel pretty good. My '99 Limited is in complete running condition with 190k on the ticker and I have no reason to believe it won't stay that way for a good while. It gets light duty to keep the miles down but I take it down gnarly county backroads in and out of 4WD and it takes it all in stride. Everything works as it should without complaint.

It's prolly a creampuff by most people and I'm just fine with that. Taking it to 300k if at all possible.

So the payments on a new T4R are going to rock in at $600-$800/month.

How many repairs can you make for that? And will you make them every month for 5 years ?

You bought a used vehicle and without knowing how it was maintained previously, can't complain.

For me, other than regular stuff like brakes, oil etc, the only non "standard" things would be valve cover gaskets. That's it! None of the other stuff anyone here has listed. No joints, solenoids, boots, sensors etc.

Mine which I bought new, is 100% dealer service and now has 530,000km (330,000 miles). NO ISSUES! (albeit starting to rust now).
