Hello everyone, I just wanted to share my story with all of you. To begin with, I had read the forum and decided on buying my first suv back in 2007. It was an 07 SR5 v6 4WD IN TITANIUM SILVER. I loved my baby. I drove her to Florida from Chicago a number of times. In the the course of a few years I racked up almost 70,000 miles, changing the oil every 5k, and having to do just the routine services. But sometimes, I would drive by the dealer, and wonder, did I make the right choice for me? My doubts drove me to test drive those v8 sports on numerous occasions, and I couldn't help but thinking that these are the way 4runners were meant to drive. Please, dont get me wrong, my baby and I drove through the Great Smokey Mountains with ease, weaving and bobbing down some wonderful roads, but honestly......it wasnt fun. I love SUV's, from sitting high up, to great foul weather driving, to off road capabilities, but something just wasnt there. I thought that for my next SUV, it will be a 5th generation v8 when the time comes. But that time never came, since Toyota decided not to keep the v8 in the 5th gen. So what now? Pay off the 07 sr5 and run her into the ground...never having the pleasure of owning what I thought was the finest truck/motor/suspension combination ? Since tomorrow is promised to no one, I decided to take that chance at personal happiness. I found a late model 08 V8 sport with 15k on the odo, and I traded my baby for her. I felt as if I betrayed the only vehicle which I have ever owned which was 100% ROCK SOLID. I know that it may sound strange, but for a moment I felt sad disappointed in myself for letting my baby go. But to be honest with myself, it was the right time. To all of those sr5 v6 owners out there, those trucks are great. But being a performance/fun to drive enthusiast , I had to do what I should have done from the start. I picked up the new "one" last night, and the first thing I did in the morning was head over to my local tire store to change out those dunlops for michelins ltx ms2's. So maybe some of you are wondering how do I feel now? Well, what many people write on this forum about the v8 being smooth and quite and powerful...its all true. What a world of difference between those two engines. I have owned both now, and the v8 is much better down low in the rpm range. However the v6 at highway speeds is equal or even better than the 8 in my opinion. That being said, it is my belief that Toyota should have made the xreas standard across the board in all model lines. This truck now handles so much better with substantionally less body roll on highway on ramps, corners, etc. It feels much more stable and gives you a much better quality ride in my opinion. I wish to thank all of you who post on this forum for your insight and opinions, and I am hoping that my new "baby" will be just as reliable as my first love. I recently traded my 2002 Tundra 4x2 access cab in on a 2003 4runner V8 Limited with X-REAS and I don't regret it one bit. I know how you feel about letting it go, I bought the truck brand new and the only thing I had done other than routine maintenance was replace the wiper fuse twice and had the O2 sensors replaced under warranty and that's it, that truck was my baby. I was doing fine with 2 wheel drive during these North Dakota winters but there is something definitly to be said about having 4 wheel drive in the snow, especially with VSC, ATRAC, anti-lock brakes and all the other features. This is my first 4x4 and it's a world of difference and the V8 goes with the 4runner very well.
