First off I want to thank and give props to Jason at RSG. He responded to questions I had on both Saturday and Sunday - that is great customer service!!! I always like to support US manufacturers whenever I can but it's rare to run into this kind of commitment to a customer. Well done!

Pic 6: OEM KDSS lower skid plate removed. Only the lower needs to be removed to install the new RSG KDSS skid plate

Pic 7: I went with 2 floor jacks and 1 neighbor to help with this install. I am the farthest from a mechanic as anyone could be and I needed the help. I did use anti-seize on the bolts and you can see smudges from it in later pics - stuff gets everywhere. I thought at first that I needed to install the KDSS skid plate before the slider, but that is not the case. The 2 short black bolts you remove from the OEM plate are re-used at the front of the RSG plate and the hole at the rear of the RSG plate goes over the outside of the slider plate and you use one of the longer bolts that comes with the slider to connect both to the frame - so I saved that as the last bolt I did on the drivers side.

Pic 8: In this one you can see that I used a block of wood to help push the hard lines for the KDSS up enough to get the bolts past them. I did this very carefully. As you can see those same lines have to come out away from the frame just enough to slide the slider plate behind them. They are fairly stiff and I did not want to damage them in anyway. There are hose holders that are bolted to the frame which are removed in the very beginning as you are getting ready to install the sliders. These have little locating tits on them to keep the hoses at the correct angle when bolted to the frame and these brackets go back on on the outside of the new slider frame - don't ask why I thought they somehow clipped over the new slider frame, but I did and wasted about 15 minutes screwing around with them. I put all bolts in just finger tight, then tightened them up just to contact with the lockwashers and then finally torqued them to 24lb/ft with a torque wrench. I did all on this side except the one that goes through the rear tab of the RSG KDSS skid plate, then I attached the front 2 bolts of the skid plate and came back and put that bolt in.

Looks GREAT!! Thanks for the write-up!! We're always happy to answer the phone and help with installs / questions!

Thanks again for the order!!

Also just a heads up I have the angled kdss rock slider for the 2010 4runner trail and I didn't need to trim the stock kdss skid plate, no problems or noises. So I think its more on personal preference whether you need to do it or not.

RSG are you guys planning on making RSG KDSS skid plates for 5th gen or are they discontinued at this point?

So for the angled rock sliders I would NOT have to trim the stock KDSS skid plate but for the flat ones I would have to?

I just don't know if I have the right tool to trim it. What is everyone using to trim the stock KDSS skid plate?

RSG are you making a KDSS skid plate for the 5th gen? I would love not to have to trim the stock one and just put yours on in place of it.

Is there any update on this thread on how to trim the kdss skid plate? Photos? Angled sliders no trim? flat needs trimming as stated..
Thanks.
