My seat broke

I really dont know how this happened but i noticed when i hit a bumb or something my seat would lean to the right side so i looked under it today and on the bar in the back on the left side was a crack. just seeing if anyone has had this problem or this is apart of a recall or something

I have had a wobble with my drivers seat as well. Im gonna have to take a look now and see whats going on. If thats the case ill prob just pull it out and weld it back up myself since its an 03. I doubt the dealer would do anything for me.

Looks like the weld held up but the heat affected zone failed and fractured... Must have been some bump...

It happened on my 08 too... Dealer swapped the seat out, no questions asked.

that happened to mine a couple months ago. i took the seat out , removed the trim and welded it alot better then is was. havent had any problems since. hope this helps.

It happened to me recently. Since my 4runner is an 03, it obviously isn't under warranty. The seat frames in the 4th gen leave a lot to be desired. I called Toyota and raised total hell with them about their recent quality issues as well as their attitude about not fixing known issues, such as the squeaky, rattling driver seat, and the sun roof rattle. They pulled my records and basically recited all the Toyotas I have owned over the years including my Lexus. The customer service rep told me that she sees that I have been a loyal Toyota customer and I told her I might not be for long with these known issues keep cropping up, and Toyotas attitude regarding fixing their problems.

Toyota agreed to cover the cost of the part. So, I ordered the seat frame from a local Toyota dealer and a local upholstery shop replaced the frame. The part was 460.70 and the labor was 195.00.

The part number if you want it is 71120-35151. This came from a TSB and is the updated part number for the 4th gen driver seat.

Honestly, the weld is actually good, if you notice, the crack is next to the weld. A proper weld will be stronger that the surrounding metal. I assume, that we're just harder on the trucks than the egg heads thought we'd be...

Mine has been doing the same lately, drivers seat leaning to the right was driving me crazy! looked on here and saw this and its exactly what happened to mine, Ill hit the dealer up later and follow up on here.

If no welder - try JB Weld

I had the same issue. Pulled seat out and confirmed that the weld had broken. I don't have access to a welder but I have used JB Weld in the past and so decided to give it a try.
First I cleaned area with wire brush. Then, as I was wondering how I could get the broken weld "lined up" one side of the bar to the other, I had an idea: Hose Clamp. So I slipped a hose clamp loosely around the bar and pushed it off to one side.
Then I mixed up about a teaspoon of solvent, shove some inside of the bar, the rest on the outside of the bar, all the way around. Then I slipped the hose clamp over the repair, "straddling" where the crack was, so the clamp overlapped repair on both sides. I then tightened up the clamp as tight as I could, then smeared some more JB Weld over the top of the clamp.
I made sure that I didn't let any weld get on any of the surrounding parts, like the rail that the seat slides on. I let it set up over night, then reinstalled the seat.
Solid as a rock!
