nope they were hand drilled with woodscrews; our drills battery died

Does installing an amplifer on the sub box as such impair or degrade the sound quality.
I was thinking about going with a similar setup, but some dude at Best Buy advised against it because he said it'd affect the bass response of the woofers.
I can see how it would affect the sound, but then again, this guy works at Best Buy. Why should I listen to him? He gets paid near minimum wage and his main motivation in life is to get a 20% discount on electronics.

if i were u , i find a nice place to put that amp, because puttin amps on the sub box will make a theif to get the whole thing,and u will loose everything u juss spent, u should secure ur sub box with some tie downs or a bike chain lol, this will save u lol

The real reason you do not mount amps on box's is because the vibration from the base will over time affect your amp.
Basically your hitting your amp with a hammer and eventually it will give out.
Mosfet type amps were bad for thiS. Best thing to do is take to small screws and screw it into back of your seat behind the box. There should be just enough angle that you will never see your amp and the screw holes will be very hard to see.
This way all you have to do is unplug the speakers if you need your trunk area back and dont have to worry about power wires and stuff.

If you take the necessary precautions when mounting an amp to a sub box, the amp should be fine:
I mounted a 5 channel amp to a sub box in my jeep using nuts and bolts - not screws - and rubber standoffs. Doing that dampens alot of the vibration caused by the JL10W0 and therefore the amp doesn't feel much, if any, vibrations or hits from the sub. Has been working for 6 years now. Only drawback is that you have to remove the sub from the box to get at the nuts, just to remove the amp. You seal up those bolt holes with silicone, by the way, to keep the box airtight.
Basslinks and tubes both have the amp/sub combo built into the same unit and they are quality pieces.

I have finally mounted my amp on the back of the back seat and after putting a few more minutes to ensure I hit the metal backing, it is very secure. It will not be coming off like the way I had it previously.
Can't imagine install the amp on the box to be that bad either. Maybe its just you wouldn't want to make it so easy for thieves. Or maybe people just don't like the way it looks.

Not all guys that work at Best Buy are dumb like that....there are a few of us that aren't you just gotta know the right ones...i agree with everybody else saying if you do the install correctly and make sure the amp is screwed down tight on the box then it won't affect a thing...thats how i've got my type-r set up and it sounds pretty good
But your right about the minimum wage thing...the car audio guys get paid nothing...thank god i don't work in that dept.

ok sry so long to reply i got the grills from
parts-express.com and the floor liner is a husky so just google husky floor liner for a 4runner and you can find them everywhere; also im not using the stock HU im using a pioneer (6800 i believe) with ipod control interfcae in my glove box.
also mounting an amp on a sub box carries absoultely no risk on your amp or any affects on your sound quality i dont care what anyone says i have talked to many professionals on the issue.
