My transmission doesnt like waking up from a nap

So when I havent driven the truck for several hours etc. it does something kind of funky. I'll try to go get out on the highway and it wont rev past 3.5k rpms then it shifts. It makes it a real dog getting on the highway. If I start it out in 1st and let it run to my desired rpms and shift to second, let it run to desired rpms then shift into drive it does fine. Then does just fine after that. Even then, if I don't do the shifting thing to get on the highway, after being driven for even 2 minutes and brought up to speed, it does fine pulling away from a stop sign etc.

Is my transmission just not a morning person? lol

Maybe there's slack in the cable that goes from your throttle body over to the computer thing. Does it not go over 3500 rpm even if you floor it?

My transmission is slow shifting out of 1st when it is cold. However, after it shifts to second the first time it doesn't give me any trouble.
The colder the longer it takes.

It seems like there may be. I'll check that. Even with it floored it will not rev over 3500 rpm until like the others have said, it warms up a little or I manually shift it.

I've owned three 3rd Gens and all 3.4L Autos (97,99, and 00) transmissions have acted the same when cold with holding rpms at first then after initial shift is good. When I bought my first 3rd gen, it worried me at first then after owning three realized its the nature of the beast with them and don't worry about it.
