My unsolved Dilemma

i dont think i can solve this , only time will tell. when the time comes ill make the choice but now i dont even know where to start...

recently my dad told me i should look into selling the 4runner. its for a good reason. It eats too much gas, and it has very high milage...it will be 265k miles by my next oil change. im probally going to sell the car, and put more money into buying a different car. the 4runner grew on me big time the past couple years i've had it.

i've always wanted a sport edition / limted 4x4 1999+ 4runner. especially green solid black (no chrome). i have big plans if i purchase one of these

but i also have my eye on the older lexus is300. they're clean looking cars and i can afford an older model.

the more and more i see nice looking 4runners , the more i want to buy a 4runner...

but everytime i get on autotrader and look at the is300..i kinda change my mind...its a really hard tie. I know a couple ppl here have / had the IS300 , do you guys recommend?

i also wanted a change , been driving this thing for a while, and although i love it , i just want change

I'd find a nice 4runner first. I've had my 4runner paid off for a while now and for the last year I've been debating to myself if i should buy a second car. My 1st choice is a 300is for a car. I just haven't found a nice 5spd with low miles in the colors i like and price yet. Funny thing is i bet when i buy one i'll still want to drive the 4runner most of the time.
 
Keep the 4runner, and buy the IS in addition. Just don't expect the IS to be a great gas millage car, cheap to maintain, or near as tough as the 4runner in a lot of aspects.

I was going to ask the same question...

My friend has that model IS and it is a fun little car, but what happens when you want to do some recreational activities? If you don't camp/snowboard/mtb etc then I don't see why not..also if you do do outdoorsy stuff and have someone in the family that has a truck then I say go for the IS to satisfy your need for change.

Opposite from you, I just got my t4r and am loving it :hatsoff:

dude i say either way u cant go wrong... A newer 4runner would be nice since its bigger and u can do alot of outdoor activities while the is300 is small and a little better on gas though it is more of a city car.

My cousin has an is300 and i can say its tight... i wanted one for so long but the money never came around for me being able to get one so im trying to save up money to get a small car but not sure wat yet.

The decision should be urs since ull be driving the vehicle. U need to figure out if ull get tired of driving the is300 too... Any vehicle u buy, u should figure out wat u really want and the most beneficial things u can do with it pertaining to the way u go about ur life. (City only then car, wheel and camp then 4runner)
 
Honestly, I too though about buying an Is300.. My next oil change, I'm going to be in the 220k tange.
The Is300 is a fun car to drive and gets better mpg than my 4runner. I too am a bit bored of the 4runner, I been driving it since High school.. I wanted to changed to a different car.. but is hard with the economy being like this.

Is hard to find a Is300 with low mileage, I been looking for one but most of them are high mileage..

Why not look into a S2000? fun, sporty, convertible , and is a 2 seater..

Have you calculated all the math out for the Is300?
 
Just wondering... whiy does everyone seem to be into IS300s.

I'm up in AK so we don't see many... are those really popular in the lower 48?
 
They are popular here in Cali. Is an affordable car that's fun to drive. But in your case, to need an 4wd most of the time because of the snow. Here in Cali, we barely get snow and is sunny for the most time.
 
High miles, yes. But, how does it run? Is it still in good shape? Have you maintained it well? If yes, then I would just keep it. Your not going to get much for it because of the miles ( your post does not say what year your Runner is ) so you should just keep it.
Get the car you are looking at. I think that in 6 months or so, you will be quite tired of looking UP at traffic, and you will start to miss being able to see beyond the car in front of you. Having a 4Runner in your stable is always a good thing.
I sold my '96 when I got my T100 and I regret it every day. Fortunately, I can still drive my Wifes '97 from time to time.
We still have my Wife's '92 Nissan Stanza. It has been a great little car. When I want to feel low & sporty, I drive it. I think we maybe put 500 miles on it in the past year. We mostly drive our trucks.

How many girls can you fit into an is300? How many girls can you fit into your 4Runner? Its a simple math question, dude.:whip2:

Because they have gotten pretty cheap. Honestly its a big part of what has made me think about getting rid of mine. No offense to you guys here that are looking at getting one, but its very sad to see who is buying these cars and what they are doing to them. I'm just trying to ride it out until the current cheap mod ricer crowd wrecks them and makes them more rare to have a clean example again.
 
its a 1999 sr5 2wd, however it runs great, i've done all regular recommended tune ups regularly. this fourm has really helped keep my car in great shape inside , under the hood and outside. the more i think hard about it..i'd want the is300 . but like someone said...ill get sick of sitting so low . (i drive my parents avalon around and im tired of not seeing the car in front of the car in front of me lol. this is not going to happen untill fall/winter of 2010. i've though hard and long about this . and its a tuff decsion. both cars are within my price range also.

not selling, kind of though , i need a new car since this one is getting too old. im going to do a trade in. hoping 1.5k or 2k for it trade in to get another
 
I have a 2001 is300 and my 1997 4runner. Bought the 4runner in October when my father made me an offer I couldn't refuse to buy his 4runner. I am now in the process of selling the is300 because I enjoy driving the 4runner more. The is300 is a fun car and since new has given me and the previous owner almost 0 problems. It depends if you have never seen use for the SUV, never hauled anything big or gone off road then I'd say get the is300. The gas mileage on the is300 will be barely any better than your 4runner. My 4runner gets 17 city 19-20 highway. The is300 is getting about 18 city and 25-26 highway on premium. There is a reason in these times of going green Toyota dropped the inline 6 engine.

BTW, if you are ever looking for an is300 mine will be for sale in about 2 weeks.
