Mystery part - fuel line shield?

Looking around for the "tinny" rattle I would occasionally hear under the rig, I saw this metal piece and barely grabbed it before it decided to part ways with my rig's body. It looks like it was a fuel line shield?

I think rear heater line as well. Were the lines go back up into the cabin. This is on the passenger side just inside the frame rail.

+1 on the rear heater coolant line shields. It protects the rubber hoses that attach to the steel lines that run to the rear - the rubber lines go through the floor to the heater unit mounted under the right front seat.

I got a good look at that when I replaced my rusting and nearly leaking 96-00(?) steel hard lines with some nice shiny non-rusting 01-02 lines I got from a junkyard.

Given how rusty that shield is, I'd be looking at those steel lines real carefully on yours if I were you unless you have an 01-02. The pain bubbles, trapping moisture underneath, and eventually, pinhole leaks will leave you stranded with an overheated motor.

Thanks everyone. All of that sounds correct. I will check the lines. My rig is a 2002 and if I recall correctly, the lines weren’t rusted. I’ll check when I get a chance.

Without checking, I’ll also need to see how easy it would be to mount a replacement.
