Mystery trans problem please help

I'm sharing a driving clip. As you can see there are no symptoms. I cleared the code but I am confident it will return.

thegipper, my 98 Ltd just started not wanting to shift out of first when cold... I just ordered replacement solenoids and am planning to drop the pan and do the filter at the same time... not sure if this is the right step but I'm wondering what else you tried on yours when you were experiencing this? thanks in advance.

Don't want to hijack the OP thread but basically you want to see if it will manually shift out of 1st by unplugging the solenoid connector on the outside of the transmission and manually shifting through the gears. If it shifts like normal, then you do in fact have a bad solenoid(s). If it still wont shift out of 1st, most likely, your transmission is failing (probably the pump).

Mine kept getting worse and worse until I just swapped in a different transmission. I literally tried everything listed in the FSM including replacing the ECU, nothing fixed it.

It definitely won't hurt to put new solenoids in and replace the filter but do the test I described above 1st (it's the 1st test called out in the FSM for failure to shift out of 1st gear). You'll also want to inspect for excessive debris/metal in the pan if you drop it.

One last thing, are you sure its not shifting out of 1st gear and not 2nd? Not shifting out of 2nd until it warms up a little is totally normal (emissions related), but not shifting out of 1st, is not.

Here is my post: Delayed shifting when cold, yes I know its normal but.....
