I've been extremely underwhelmed with the choices (or lack thereof) for running boards and nerf bars for the SR5 and Limited. Our family simply has to have something since it is borderline dangerous for our 6 and 9 year old to get in and out of the back seat without eating pavement (poor design by Toyota in my opinion given they did not include a platform). Apparently it's a difficult design challenge due to the goofy extra wide panel beneath the doors. The one nerf bar I've seen that I like is the n-FAB, and it is currently only available for the Trail Edition. I called nFAB to see if they were planning a version for the SR5/Limited, and to my surprise they informed me they are working on one and that it should be available in "approximately two months." Perhaps the guy was misinformed, but he sure seemed to be in the know. He told me they had come up with a mounting solution and were productizing it now. If any of you out there are also interested in this, I recommend you call n-FAB (1-866-806-NFAB (6322)) and show interest, as I'm guessing the more interest they get, the more likely they are to prioritize it.

Hahahahaha! I e-mailed them a half dozen times when I saw the NFAB bars mounted on an SR5 a long time ago, NO RESPONSE. I also placed a number of phone calls to them and went 'unanswered'. I went with the RR sliders and don't regret my decision one bit! I would not hold my breath if I were you, but you never know. My experience, and others based on recent threads, have not been that good. All that being said....I really do like the look of them.
FYI - There is someone who installed the TE ones on an SR5 or LE (I forget which) with a very simple mod, so if you did not want to wait the 2+ months use his mod!

You can wait for 2 months or just do what I did. Add square tubing as a spacer I have an LE. Do a search on n-fab side steps.

Keemonrunnin - thx, that is brilliant, but I certainly can't pull that off myself and I"m not sure the truck accessory store I've been talking with can either; I'll certainly take your thread/pics over showing how to do it and see if they can. Thx for all the great pics and info!
Westwind, thx - I like the RR sliders also, but I don't think they give enough stepping area for my kids which is a priority. Given some of the other threads I've read about poor customer service from n-FAB I"m a little skeptical they'll have the SR5/LE edition in the time frame the guy on the phone said...

Keemonrunnin, are those things solid when you step on them?? It seems the extra 4" space would make them twist a little and put more strain on the bolts going to the body.
I may actually do this mod. I really, really want those bars. I tried to get them installed when I bought the truck (I saw them on an FJ), but even those don't fit the 4R.
I called N-fab a few minutes ago. They told me they don't have any plans to make them for the SR5 or Limited. It's a TE or nothing. So who knows.
Luckily, I have a metal shop at work (building commercial buildings) and we use HSS4X4X1/4 tubing all the time. Is that the thickness you used? Or is that 3/16?

I'll remeasure the tubing again later today and let you know. They are solid,my brother and myself stood on it at the same time and bounced on it.I also had a buddy of mine do a little spot welding in the corners for added support.

Yes I did, with rust oleum flat black. The brackets are 4"l x 4"w x 2". It is 1/4" thick material.

It is the rockerpanel. As far as I know deleting the rocker enables you to put the bars on without modding them at all. At least thats what Im hoping since I got rid of my rockers in anticipation of getting the bars.

That's how I understand it. But, without the rockers, the trim is unfinished which is why people don't do that.
Isn't there some gaps by the fenders, and when you open the doors when you remove them?

It isnt a gap so much as kinda ends abruptly. Ive gotten used to the way it looks but it definately is more noticeable when the doors are open cause you see the unfinishedness of it and the tabs where the panels attach. But like I said Ive gotten used to the way it looks and like it. I think when I get the steps installed they will really make that unfinishedness unnoticeable.

Since you took them off anyway, you could try to trim them. I've seen some people do it. Just trim it down to almost nothing, and when the N fab's are on it will finish it off. Plus, when you open the door it looks like it should.
