N-Fab Nerf-Step Running Boards

Hello, I'm soon to be the owner of a 2014 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4. I want to add black tube running boards. I really like the look of the N-Fab Nerf-Step Running Boards. However, the N-Fab website says they will only work on a TE. I cannot figure out what would be different between an SR5 vs a TE when it comes to mounting these. Has anyone had any experience with installing these? Is there something I'm missing? Seems like they would bolt to the frame so why would they work on a TE but not an SR5? Maybe someone has found a work around on here. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check Antman's thread - I think these are the ones he installed. I believe it requires some trimming of the rocker panels on Limiteds and SR5s but he shows exactly what needs to be done

Here is the page Manufacturers of high quality Nerf Steps, Prerunners, Harley Bars, Light Bars, Replacement Front Bumpers, Rock Rails, Rear Runners, Tire Carriers & Truck Accessories a reason COULD be that some TE models have KDSS and they allowed for that when making these steps. SR5's and some TE's do not have these additional lines.

I just told you why they might only offer these for TE models. Hydraulic lines that would change the bracket design. I cannot put it any plainer. Call them to confirm.
 
Thanks. I was just providing you a link to the N-Fab webpage to show where they say "Trail Edition" only based on your previous post (that you have since edited). Your original post said I had some bad data but I see that you revised your post since I posted the link to their webpage. I gave them a call but the person that answered didn't really know (didn't get a knowledgable person). I'm thinking the rocker panels must be different or the mounts for the KDSS must be pivotal in the issue like you suggested. Hoping to figure out a work around or possibly another manufacturer that has a similar design that will work on SR5's. Thanks for the help.

[MENTION=106592]jebmobile[/MENTION] - It doesn't have anything to do with the KDSS lines. The steps do not bolt to the frame- they bolt to the body itself. Strong enough to be steps- NOT sliders.

They list them as TE only because previous models- 2010-2013 had different rocker panels for SR5/LE vs TE that required trimming.

The new models all seem to have the same rockers and they should fit on there no problem with no trimming.

EDIT: The Trails and SR5's have the same rockers so the NFabs will fit them.
The Limited will still need spacers, or cutting to fit.

N-Fab needs to update their site/do some research.

Spacers probably Needed

It really depends if you have Rocker Panels on your 4runner or not. If you dont have the panels, the TE Nfab steps will fit your SR5. Limited come with the panels. I recently installed some Nfab side steps on my 2014 LE 4runner. Since they have the Rocker Panels, I purchased some fabricated spacers (look up forum member Ride to purchase, or you can make your own).

Just was wondering if you ever installed the n-fab running boards on your SR5? I just picked up a 2014 model and wanted to do the same.

Thanks to this website, I found the NFAB running boards. It's kind of amazing the price differences I found on the interwebz. One place had them at $320, but then had a $90 shipping fee, which is super lame. I ended up buying from amazon for like $298 with free shipping, no tax.

Can someone please tell me if this is a one person job? I wasn't quite sure if one person could knock this out- I don't have any jacks or anything special as far as tools, it looks like a wrench is all that is needed?

I installed some on my Tacoma by myself in a parking lot with just a socket set all in about 30 mins. I can't see a 4runner being that much different. Although in other threads people mentioned about taking one of the gas tank straps off. But that may have been for sliders.
 
n fabs with spacers

I have a set of N-fabs with spacers built by "Ride". I may be getting rid of them for some sliders. PM me if you're interested, I was hoping to find someone local so neither one of us would have to worry about freight but we may be able to work something out if you're interested in buying a used set. sucks!! I recently moved to Minneapolis and I used to live in Gainesville!! Let me know if you are interested. There should be pics in my profile stuff.

Easy peezy. Lay on your back and put a bar on your stomach. You'll be able to see where the bolts are in the bottom of the body. BIG HINT. The bent part of the bar goes forward. The instructions will say otherwise, but take my word for it. Start one bolt in the center bracket to hold the bar in place. Then go to one end and start installing them until all are in place hand tight. Then snug them down with the wrench or a ratchet. 30 minutes tops. Faster if you have a helper.

Yes - good point - bends goes forward. Buddy and I did this on my truck - I had to take off the trim on my '10 - that took longer than putting in the bars. Easy to install - having an extra hand really helps make it quick, but easily done solo.

Also - did a check for someone else with a '14 a few weeks ago - the attachment is the same for the '14s as the '10-'13s - so mod with confidence!

p.s. ended up not using my Ride kit - I'm posting in them in the 5th gen sale sticky (pics posted there) - PM if interested (no shipping if in Houston area).

Thanks very much for the info! I think you may have saved me ten hours of fugging around with the thing. Just curious, why would the instructions tell you to do it the wrong way? Is there an evil genius at NFAB who likes to have others suffer? :)

Did you need an industrial ratchet set, or will my generic Lowe's set work?
