n00b to the forums and a question...

i have an '02 4runner. i'm needing new tires bad, but i'm wanting to upgrade a bit from the factory set. i'd like to get larger wheels (no low profile and whatever will fit in the current setup with no lift kits) and some black rims to fit the tires.

i'm going to eventually tint all the windows, as well, but not worried about that right now.

this site looks like a great place to get more info about 4runners so i look forward to seein' what everyone else has been doing to their own.

You never mention what type of tires/rims you're looking for. You said bigger wheels, but how much bigger are you looking for? 17's? 18's? 20's? Looks like you want a meatier tire, but it's going to depend on what size wheel you want to run.

I personally think anything larger than an 18" wheel looks rediculous on a T4R unless it has some meaty tires.

i guess i should've been more specific when i said "whatever will fit in the current setup with no lift kits" and "black rims".

i want the largest, meatiest, non low profile tire i can fit in my current standard wheel well.

i want black rims with some chrome. something solid looking, no spokes.

beyond that, i'm open to whatever.

Have you ever checked out www.tirerack.com ?

They don't have a huge selection of wheels for our vehicles, but it would give you a start. They say 24's will fit on your car without any suspension modifications. Not sure how meaty of a tire you would be able to fit that though! Try 20's with some meats. That would fit. They have several black wheels with a polished lip how you like them. They have tires on there as well you can take a look at. Doesn't mean you have to buy from them, but just to give you an idea.

Check the sig brother! That's what I'm running with my stock wheels. I'm taller than other factory T4R's of my (our) gen. A bad pic, yes, but it gives you a rough idea.

I'm not an expert on larger wheels and the fitment on your vehicle. You should call a local Tires Plus or even Tirerack.com and ask the guys there what your options are. They will be more knowledgeable than anything I can offer.
