What is this sound I'm hearing? It sounds like the ac/heat or something is running when it isn't. It sounds like a fan running..... I can hear air movement..... it seems to be coming from inside the dash above my glove box. There is no air coming out of the vents and all the switches are off. WTF?

i had the same problem with mine, i just gave it a few good kicks and it was good to go and it hasnt happened since.. sound like a vent was on when it really wasnt and it was like 3 times louder than the fan on high

What year is the Runner??

Do you have rear heat?
Might be the rear heater fan on.Check for air flow under front seats from the back.

99 SR5 with rear heat. But the switch for that is also off. I dunno what the deal is but its making me crazy.

Kick mod ineffective.

Try switching the mode to Circulate rather than Intake.

Though, you should feel at least a slight breeze with intake on, but in the case it's selected, it may be what you're hearing.

Alas, it appears to be a bad switch. After turning the rear heat fan switch on and off repeatedly, the fan finally shut down. Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the help.
