Narrow snow tires

I tried my 265/70-16 Revos on Boreas Pass with six inches of snow on the ground, and they floated over the snow. They did not provide much control if I didn't go slow. Not that they're supposed to go like a snowcat or anything, but it could have been better. Just too wide.

So I got to thinking, what's the narrowest snow tire can I run on my 2001 T4R in the winter?

There are several tires offered in 215/85-16. This size would require dedicated wheels between six and seven inches wide. Not sure if I can find such wheels to fit.

Anyone tried that size or similar, on, say, a Cooper Discoverer M+S ?

There was some discussion on this in another thread and I think the suggestion was to go with 245s - you still have to bear in mind the load bearing capability of the tire and going too narrow may compromise things in that department.

I went with the Blizzak DMZ3's at the regular stock size of 265/65/17. They were amazing. Going to put them back on for this season in a couple of weeks. Check them out at tirerack.com
