Sorry dumb question....

Does the navigation unit in a new 2008 work as a DVD player as well if the parking break is on?? If not is there any way to make it do so?

No it doesn't and I haven't yet seen a fix for this.
 
well i saw someone here did a try on plugging in the lexus dvd player into our stock navi unit, all it had was audio but no video, seems no one can hack it to play video yet.
 
Hhhhmmmmmm, I have heard of people saying that they can plug their iPod in and play videos from it, do you know what the best ipod mounting solution is?
 
sorry i don't, my wife just leave her creative player inside the center console....

but i am still in the search of how to make the stock nav play video.... (well, for the least modification and least amount of money to spend)
 
I think the jack is awesome but I really want to find a way to have the iPod info display on the actual screen. IT seems as though the search for a way to turn it into a DVD player is a popular one as well.
How do you like the OME nav system?

i assumed you mean OEM toyota nav? yea i like it. very user friendly and their calculating time is fast also map is very precise. no complain so far!
 
It will only work from the factory if you have the Rear Seat Entertainment System (RSES), you then can get the video that's played on the rear screen to appear on the nav screen. The stock nav headunit is only a DVD-ROM without any MPEG decoding capabilities.

It's a flip down 9" LCD. The player is integrated above it. There are also additional A/V inputs in the center console, so you can in theory connect a gaming console to it. I want to say all RSES equipped 4Runners come with the 110v outlet as well. RSES is a sweet option, but it's expensive, $1600 at the time I was ordering my '06 and being that I'm the driver, I would get zero ROI on it (don't have kids). $1600 gets me a sweet laptop (like a Dell XPS m1330) that will have a bigger screen and serve other duties. :D

Thanks for all the help!!! I love having all the toys but i'm thinking that the dvd isn't for me... no kids here either, though it does look damn good! I am going with the nav for sure though!!
 
Thanks for all the help!!! I love the thought of having the dvd player and being able to play it on the front screen... But i think it would be a long wait for the truck to get in.... also, no kids here either.
