Hi Everyone,

I figured I'd introduce my project here. I noticed that many of you have gone pretty in-depth with these navigation systems. I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner LTD w/ the factory navigation.

My goal is to accomplish the following:
-Integrating an alternative VGA source (i.e. CarPC) with the OEM navigation screen
-Integrating composite/RCA (NTSC) video input
-Disabling the fact that you can't change your route while the car is moving

I've examined the schematics for the Fujitsu head unit (Denso manufactures the entire navigation system, but Fujitsu is the actual manufacturer of the touch screen head-unit), and I feel that all of the above are realistic possibilities. I'd also like to try to integrate the touch screen interface with a CarPC, although I feel that such a task would be nearly impossible.

ANYWAY, I figured that maybe someone could use those links. My *real* question is, does anyone know anything about ordering the connectors on the back of the navigation head-unit?

I went to my Toyota dealer last weekend and tried to order the connectors (with what I thought were the correct part numbers), but only 4 out of 14 were correct!
These are the part #s I thought were correct:
90980-11909 (Toyota)
90980-11923 (Toyota)
90980-12209 (Toyota)
90980-12211 (Toyota)
90980-12038 (Toyota)
90980-12183 (Toyota)
90980-12259 (Toyota)
818100-25560700 (Fujitsu-Ten)

(The Fujitsu-Ten part #s were obtained from the service manual from the head-unit. The parts listed in this manual are supposedly orderable from Toyota, but my dealer turned me away)

The part numbers I was actually *able* to order were:
90980-11923
90980-12038
90980-12183
90980-12259

Anyone know what the correct Toyota part #s are for those parts that I wasn't able to order? Anyone know how to order the Fujitsu-Ten parts through Toyota? I already tried e-mailing Fujitsu-Ten, but they will not sell to the public due to contractual obligations with Toyota.

If you already have a two piece navigation installed... Can you not do like people have already done with the Lexus 2 piece navigation?

If you look at the diagram on the PDF, the currently use either a pioneer tuner... (I dont remeber the model.. If you want I will find it) which converts RGB to Composite...) and interupt the connector CN1705, which has Red, Green, Blue wuth SYNC and VG.. with that switcher, you take over the screen from the navigation computer, and can play anything you want on it...( I know since I installed one on a GS430)...

Once you interupt that you can force any picture onto the screen, and use that for inputs (via Pioneer tuner)..

We installed that between the navigation with a small IR eye on the dash, when he didnt want navigation he would use the supplied remote and change over to the tuner, which he had 2 inputs, and also the tuner.. The sound was going thru FM modulator (which also is included in the Tuner)..

I believe those ARE the correct part numbers. As stated in the factory service manual, not all of the part numbers are available in the supply chain. Another alternative would be to order the harness(es) that contain those connectors ($$$$).

Anyway, in regards to my project, I've developed a block diagram & several trial schematics. The parts I need are on-order and I should receive them soon! Track my progress here or on MP3Car.com (links above)
 
Camera Questions

Great job on the links and pictures. Regarding the Backup camera, I have a few questions.

1. You have the 03 Ltd with Factory Nav, yes?

2. Is there anything plugged into the Backup Camera connector on the back of the NAV unit (meaning is there a harness already there)?

3. Did you order the OEM Backup Camera from toyota? Or Aftermarket?

Mr C...saw your post on the mp3car forum a while back...had actually forgotten about it until you posted here...when you ordered the service manual, did you just get the head unit SM or did you also get the nav ecu SM?

Yep, I have the 2003 Ltd w/ OEM Factory Navigation.

Yes, there is already a harness plugged into the back of my NAV unit (for the backup cam). Check out the link above on Castulucci.com for the pinout details.

I actually don't have a backup camera. It wasn't available as an option yet when I purchased the vehicle.

I know this may be here somewheres, but i have yet to find it. When installing the backup camera, where exactly are you guys running the wires? Under the carpeting, along carpet and side panels? under the body along under carriage? I will be installing soon with my nav and wish to do it right first time around.

thanks for the info. So I'm guessing that if there is already a harness plugged in to the NAV, then the harness may already be in the tailgate as well. Maybe all I have to do is order the camera and plug in (and mount as well). Gonna have to dig into the tailgate and have a look.

Does anyone know if the harness is already there in the tailgate before I go digging?

Almost positive that it is there on the left side of the license plate. I haven't looked for sure, but the diagrams I've seen show it there :)

No Visible harness

Well I pulled my tailgate apart and I saw no dangling plug that seemed like the camera plug. But I could be wrong. I also checked the harness that leads to the license plate lamps and there were no extra wires in that bundle which led from inside to outside. Might have to pull NAV unit to see if there is a harness there in my truck.

need help to complete this

Need help here to finish this back of nav system informational chart. Will help me as well as others with their installs. Plus i have a buddy who owns a dvd/vcr/stereo repair shop. He is studingmy nav to try to figure out who to play dvd's on it. He says it should, since it plays the nav dvd...he may or may not figure something out. But i sure hope he does.

Here is what my Sienna has hooked into it. I have also compiled an extensive excel spreadsheet with most of the connector info on it. Yell if you want a copy or if someone can post it here.
