Look guys i am in trouble. I went to that website all where talking about months ago and bought the Factory NAV system for my 04 sport edition 4runner with V8 and JBL 10 speaker surround sound....i got the one the website says to use and i could not install it...not very handy there...so i took it with the downloaded material for install(which claims it is practically plug and play withe JBL 10-speaker set-up) and i was told by the stereo shop after they had my car an entire day that they could not install it. I am ouot $1500 on this Solara NAV system unless i can get it installed....i live in the central coast now near SLO in California....Does anyone know of a great automotive electrician or shop that can get this done for me???.....my only other recouorse is to sell the darn thing....HELP

You sure you can't do it yourself? I was hesitant, but just read through the directions a few times, and it isn't that hard. maybe an hour the first time you take it all apart, and then, if you ever need to do it again, you can do it in about 15 minutes.
you have to pull a little hard on some parts after the bolts are removed, but they eventually come off. Then it's just tapping two wires for speed / reverse, and plugging the connector in for power/audio. You'd have to run a cable and mount a speaker for the navigation voice, but it really isn't that hard to install.
The main thing is to just follow the directions closely, and you'll do fine.

Did the shop say why they couldn't install it? Even without the directions, they should have been able to figure out that the harness on the Nav and the 6 disc is the same? I've known a few installers, and they can tell a Toyota adapter by just looking at it. They do so many cars they have them memorized.

If you don't mind a drive up to the San Francisco Bay Area, there is a great shop where I live that is very knowledgeable and does quality work. I've been working with them for info about my 4Runner audio/alarm needs. They can make most anything work if it's possible, and if they can't, they can help you find an alternative.
The shop is Custom Car Alarms in Pleasant Hill, CA. If you need more info, let me know.

I know there are some good car stereo shops out there that might be able to help.. but a lot of them are going to tell you they can't help. The install is really quite easy once you get going. I was guy to get a Solara Nav and try it out... no instructions (and the OEM Value guys just sent it to me to see if it would work... we really didn;t think it would.) Anyway... just take it step by step and let us help out.
