Nav owners - Fully Integrated Ipod solution

A GX470 owner hooked up an AIC-100i from www.vaistech.com and has artist and song titles showing on the nav display as well as full steering wheel control functions! I don't know about anyone else but this is what I've been waiting for to buy an Ipod instead of an mp3 or cd changer! I'll try to contact them to see if it works for the 4runner..

the install write-up:

Hey can you ask them if it works on the 10 Speaker JBL system as well? I've been wanting to get an IPOD and this would be awesome to have if it controls the IPOD as well.

do you care if the song and artist text info show up on the head unit? if not, then there's some cheaper solutions out there to connect the ipod so you can control it with the steering wheel and display the song number only on the head unit. but sure, i'll ask them about that too.

"AIC-100i can be set up in CD changer emulation mode or MD changer emulation mode. We suggest to use MD changer mode ONLY if your Radio supports MiniDisc changer with MD-TEXT, otherwise MD CHANGER mode is useless. Playlist Title, Song Title, Artist Name and Album name information can be displayed on the Radio LCD or Navigation screen ONLY in MD changer emulation mode."

i'm sure the nav has MD changer mode since it's been done in the GX470 link, but i don't know if your stock jbl hu (no nav) has it or not, anyone has one that knows for sure?

actually the model i'm looking at, AIC100i is $369, still expensive and more than an ipod, yes, but worth it imo as this is the only solution i know of to display ipod text/song info on a stock hu. i remember paying $1k for a 6 disc cd changer w/ fm modulator 15 years ago! http://www.vaistech.com/aic100i.html

the $600 unit, AVIC100i will do both audio and video aux input.

Has anybody attempted to install this into a 4Runner yet? Just wondering if somebody has and could verify that the MD Text mode works.

Well then pay the extra $231, get a PVP instead of that ipod. Then you've got a way to watch/listen to music videos, TV, movies, and view photos thru the NAV! If you spending that much mula, you might as well go a bit further for that extra WOW factor. That is if I understood your post correct.
