Navagation System: POI

I purchased a 2006 Toyota Forerunner V8 Limited recently, with the Navagation System installed. In "playing" with the Nav, I hit "POI" and "Restaurants" and now have those silly flags all over my maps. I read the manual and cannot for the life of me figure out how to delete these.

Does anyone know how? PLEASE ... help!

I am also having difficulty in hooking up both my garage door opener and my Bluetooth for my cell phone. Neat stuff -- but what good are they without being able to use them?

Well if the overwhelming knowledge here doesnt come up with any answers then I would go back to the dealer. They should be able to explain all of that to you.

They claim ignorance about the garage and about the garage door opener ... and neither the cell phone company nor Toyota seem to be able to hook up the Bluetooth. Perhaps they can help with the stupid restaurant flags ... Thanks for your answer.

Use the voice command. Press the voice button on the steering wheel. You will hear...

"After the beep, please say a command...*BEEP*"

Then you need to say...

"Hide all icons."

The navigation will clear all flags from the screen.

Try these instructions for HomeLink if you have a rolling code opener. To clear the codes, hold down buttons 1 and 3 until the light flashes.

Ok. Delete the codes in the homelink then try this.

Hold down the garage door button and the homelink button u want programmed. Once the light changes from a slow blinking light to a rapid blinking light, release both buttons. Then go to the garage door openner and (this is different for all garage door openners) push the "learn" button ONCE. Within 30 secs, press the same button u programmed 3 times, and it should work.

For your Bluetooth phone, did you put the navigation into pairing mode? Is your phone able to find a nearby Bluetooth device? It would be best not to have any other Bluetooth device nearby or turned on. And if you haven't changed the pin, Toyota uses 1111 for the code, rather than 0000 used by all Bluetooth headsets.

I use the voice command "POI OFF" on my 05. There is several ways to remove them from the screen. You need to read the manual. There are MANY other functions/options/controls/commands that you will need to read in the manual. This is not a device that you can just "wing it".

My cell phone is with Cingular, and I tried to follow the directions, but nothing seems to work. I just can't seem to find where I would enter the 1111 on the cell phone. It should pull up the phone screen, press 'Settings', press 'Telephone', 'Bluetooth', and finally 'Register'. This will put the nav into pairing mode. Your phone's Bluetooth should be enabled or turned on. Now with your phone depending on make and model, it'll be either under "Tools", "Voice Tools" or "Settings", select the Bluetooth option. From there you will want to select the option, "Search", "Find", "Pairing" or "New Relationship" on some PPC devices. Your phone should pick up the nav as "HANDS FREE" default name of the nav, it can be changed though. Let the phone and nav do its searching, wait for the nav screen to change telling you input the pin code to the phone. After that, you should be able to pair the two. If your phone gives you an option between "headset" and "hands free" mode, select "hands free". (From my experience, "hands free" allows auto transfer of the audio from the phone to the headset or nav. "Headset" doesn't, I have to initiate a transfer everytime to get audio switched over.) If your phone isn't finding the nav after it's in pairing, try taking out the battery for about 30 seconds and power it back on. (Unless you have a PDA that loses memory when the battery is removed, then use the reset button.) The pairing for the nav should be the same as it is for your headset. All Bluetooth should be and able to be paired the same regardless of carrier. The difference between carriers is some do not implement all the Bluetooth profiles, so you might not be able transfer the phonebook over to the nav.

Some openers have a sequence you can press on the hardwired control pad to initiate the remote learning mode. You can check which phones work and which functions of the phone can be used with the bluetooth on the NAV system by going to: http://toyota.letstalk.com/brands/toyota-bt/home.htm

Just pick out your year and model model then click "use/pair existing phone". Then pick out the service provider/phone model and it'll tell you what works. Not all phones are listed though.

I use a Motorola V3m Razr cellphone from Verizon and it works great with the bluetooth feature on the Nav. Sorry I can't help with the garage homelink feature, my carport doesn't have a garage door to open.

Since originally putting my message in, I changed cellphones and nowhave the same one as you -- the Motorola V3M Razr (but with Cingular) ... and it "coupled" with the Bluetooth feature like a charm. I still don't know how to voice activate it, but at least I can answer it, and "dial" from the Address Book I added to the Nav. Any suggestions? I must admit that normally I RTFM, but since it didn't help much with my old cellphone, I never did RTFM with regard to voice dialing. Perhaps after this holiday weekend, I'll have a minute to read.
