Navigatin/Phone contacts locked while driving!

Navigation/Phone contacts locked while driving. Help!

Has anyone been able to overcome the absolutely ridiculous and stupid problem with the touchscreen NAV and Phone/Contacts list not being accessable while the car is in motion? These idiots think it's safer for us not to be able to play with these features while driving, however it's much more dangerous trying to changle lanes or swerve across a bunch of lanes in order to stop the car to use the NAV or surf through your contacts list in order to make a phone call.

Thanks poolzer. Did you have a stereo shop do the install or did you do it yourself?

My understanding is that it is dealer configurable. I do not own one, but test drove a limited where the NAV screen entries could be done while driving.

I agree its a PITA. But voice recognition is so much easier to use. Why touch the screen when you can just say "Call Moe"? Even when I'm not moving, I'd rather initiate a call using voice recognition.

You should be able to use the speed dial or voice dial when moving.

At this point I'm thinking maybe I should actually read the users manual and start using the voice recognition. On a side note even if the voice thing does work flawesly I still need the unlock module so my gf can access nav and other things as I'm driving while we are on a road trip.

I personally dislike and dont use the voice stuff because it takes to damn long to get through the menus. One click on the override and I or my passenger can take care of everything quickly, then click back.

I agree 100%! Going thru those menu's using voice recogntition is a nightmare. I have no patience whatsoever. I'm ordering the module. I've had several BMW's with voice recognition and it just sucks going thru the menu's. I never used voice recognition. Thank god the German's have it all figured out at least. No lock on the Nav while driving.

FYI, there is a setting that allows you to make it so you don't have to listen to "Janet" give you the prompts when using VR. I do wish I could just say "Call Home" and have it do it, but I think you still have to go through the prompts, but they are quick if you change the setting.
