Navigation in 3rd gen 4runner...

I have already read the forum that talks about installing the Denso Navigation unit for the 2005 camry; however, I was wondering if anyone knew of any other navigation unit that can be installed into a 3rd generation 4runner, specifically for the year 2000. Thanks

Yes, assuming you have a double din like my 99, you can put most aftermarket units in.....however, they are incredibly expensive for what you get....and they don't have detachable faces, etc., making them more likely to be stolen.

The Alpine, in my opinion is the best, because you can have the nav, which plugs in like a cartridge, along with the DVD/CD player.

Other less expensive units use the CD slot for the nav, which means while you are running nav, you can't be running a DVD/CD. That bites in my opinion.

FWIW, I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 200W for $199, and I love it. The alpine would cost you about $1000 or so.

you don't have to get a double din. you can always get a single din aftermarket nav unit and those do have detachable faces.

you can always put another cheaper single din head unit under your nav unit and use that as your cd player through the aux input. this will eliminate the problem with not being able to play a cd and have nav at the same time.

sweet.

did you hook up to the vss?

if so, where and what color wire?

thanks.

i have a 2k highlander ed. 4x4 like the OG poster.
