So I'm getting ready to upgrade my factory radio to some kind of double-din navigation system. I am really debating in the stock JBL navigation or another brand such as pioneer etc. I like the look of the stock one better because it looks like it fits better than others, but I want to know what some of the things are that I will dislike as well. So let me hear what you love or what you hate about your stock navigation system. Thanks

Hate the lockout when I'm moving... but my disc allows for the override, so it's a smaller issue. Aside from that, there's not much I hate about it.

Negatives to built-in Nav: Can't take it with you to another car, ie. we can't take my wifes car when we need navigation, or when I'm travelling for work or on vacation I can't take my navigation system with me. NAV DVDs get out of date and they are expensive to upgrade. It's expensive to purchase with vehicle. It locks me out so it can't be used while driving.

Positives: Looks cool. Unlikely to be stolen; portable units are favorites for thieves. It's always with you in your car.

I'm not a big fan of OEM Toyota navigation systems, so I would rather have an aftermarket nav system. Since my HTC has Google nav built in, I use that if I have 3G coverage and a Garmin in the glove compartment when I don't.

I've had both a Pioneer N1 that cost $2000+ back in the day (late 2004) as well as a Kenwood nav system (maps by Garmin) that ran around $1000 a couple of years ago. I know that aftermarket nav headunits have gone down in price, but they're not really worth it IMHO. Last summer I bought a 7" DVD headunit and called it a day. If I need navigation I use my phone or my $200 handheld Garmin.

The Nav in my IS350 is the best factory NAV I have ever used. And I have used late model Benz, Chevy, Chrysler, Honda, Infiniti and BMW.

Nav is great, I have factory nav in my 04, but I also have a handheld NUVI.

I will never buy a vehicle with built in Nav again. The handheld units allow so much more freedom and customize using.

Get your Stereo to be a stereo and get a nav to be a nav.

I find the factory NAV particularly handy. I've got NAV software on my iPhone but it's just too much trouble trying to look at the screen while driving.

Pros: 4-disc CD changer, integrated bluetooth, looks like it was supposed to be there.

Cons: Lockout while moving, NAV can become a little confused with roads/freeways that are packed close together and it always reverts back to the map screen after a phone call/backup camera.

I have the E7007 Sienna NAV in my 4Runner and it's nearly identical to the one in my sister's IS250 and both have been very good.
