Navigation / radio reboots hangs problem update

"NAVIGATION / RADIO REBOOTS HANGS PROBLEM UPDATE"

Hi Mike, Have you had any issue since the update? I noticed that you posted way back in January.

We just purchased a 2014 Limited with (of course) 38k miles and out of warranty. We noticed that one week after buying it the radio restarts at random. Our drives so far have been very short (15 minutes max) so we'll see how it reacts during our thanksgiving road trip. I just emailed the dealer we purchased it from regarding the issue and we'll see what they say. I can only assume they will give us the update at no cost besides driving the vehicle to them.

I got my '15 Trail in August of 2015; it's had a few updates pushed down to it, but hadn't had any problems with it, until tonight.

This evening, the radio rebooted. On a relatively short drive from downtown to my neighborhood (10 minute drive, about 6 miles), the radio rebooted a half-dozen times.

I don't recall a recent update, to neither the dash unit nor the Entune app on my iOS phone.

Hope it was only a momentary glitch, and is okay tomorrow...

.

First few drives were fine, but Sunday on a 6hr drive it rebooted about a dozen times in 30 minutes. It would hang, reboot, show the "Toyota" screen then freeze again, and the second time the Toyota screen came up, it would proceed.

Turned the car off and back on again, still no fix. Disconnected my phone (Android) from bluetooth, and it hasn't rebooted since. My wife's iPhone doesn't cause this kind of behavior... perhaps its your phone or your phone's version of Entune?

Same experience here. Just started Nov 28, 2016 approx 3:30pm CST. Rebooted many times on 10min drive. Then a second drive 40 min it rebooted around 6-8 times intermittently. Don't know what triggered this? I have iphone 6 and 2016 TRD PRO got it in Aug 2016.

Same ^^. Dealer has offered to replace my headunit, but I don't want my dash ripped apart if it won't do any good.

As a follow up, this hasn't happened since I unpaired my Android from the radio. I haven't bothered to re-pair it.

The current "annoyance du jour" of this entune thing is that it will automatically connect to my wife's iphone and start playing a random song through bluetooth audio... despite that the little "musical note" icon isn't highlighted for her iphone.

Solution was for her to turn off her iphone's bluetooth.

All of this happened when we did a live / over the air update of entune when it said "your software needs an update". Since then we had to re-program all of our favorites on XM, FM and AM and this rebooting and auto-play bluetooth audio thing keeps happening. Hooray.

I see this is an old thread, but, this happened to me the other day while out on a cruise. I haven't taken the '14 SR5 into the dealer, yet. Has anyone else had this issue?

Mine has frozen a few times and then rebooted itself. Not sure if there is a current TSB. But BlackWorksInc would know.

Mine does it about once a month. It'll reboot 3 or 4 times in a half hour drive. Doesn't matter whether I'm using Bluetooth ,am radio whatever.

For what it's worth I signed into entunes app last night and when I went out to the truck this morning it popped up with a mandatory update. Quick install so we'll see how it goes.

My system did this to me today twice on a drive this morning. I will see how it goes over the next couple of weeks and see if it continues. Never had a problem with it till now.

Consistant reboot issue when Siri is activated

Hi all! I’m new to this forum and I’m really trying to make sure I’m doing this right. If I’m not, feel free to pelt me with snowballs/point me in the right direction

I bought my first 4Runner about 4 months ago. It’s a 2018 SR5 premium, and I like it quite a bit. I’ve scoured the internet to find a solution for the constant Bluetooth issue, after leaving my vehicle back at the dealer for 2 weeks (1 hour drive) and basically getting my intelligence insulted by a simplistic lie of an answer.

I have an iPhone 8+, and the issues I CONSTANTLY experience are:
Siri button pressed-microphone on NAV appears gray and then takes a full minute to reset before I can use it again. This happens 4 out of 5 times.
Toyota dealer was able to replicate the issue, but wrote in the report that I needed to only use the steering wheel button to activate it (MAKES ZERO DIFFERENCE). After disputing that with them, they “inspected” it again, and put in the new report that I need to “start talking immediately after pushing the button, or else the system thinks it was a mistake”. I felt like putting my head through a wall after that answer because, as we all know, you can talk to the air as much as you like but until the microphone is green you’re wasting your breath.
Beyond that I have the constant skipping in music and random losing sync and freezing up in the middle of a phone call.
Toyota seems baffled by my request to replace the stereo, but I simply don’t know what to do about it. I know in the context of life it’s a small issue, but hey I purchased a fairly pricey vehicle and I work hard for it! I feel like I’m entitled to at least a properly functioning car.
Anyways sorry for my long rant, and I’d appreciate any helpful feedback.
I have already read the “bluetooth Skipping” threads and have tried the supposed solution. I feel like a bought a lemon.

Here is the website for anyone of Toyota persuasion to update their Entune system.

https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/downloads

Thanks for the link bro! My audio system was randomly freezing and wouldn't let go without an ignition cycle. I used the link to download the update to a USB stick and did the upgrade as instructed at the Toyota Downloads site. I did have to remove the map CF for it to work but it went through after that.

2014 Limited Magnetic Gray - your experience may vary depending on color. :-/

Had this issue the other day.

It randomly reset on me.

2018 TRD Pro... with 1888 miles on the clock.

Dealer will update apparently and if you still have the issue and complain enough they'll give you a new one if you're in the warranty period.

"NAVIGATION / RADIO REBOOTS HANGS PROBLEM UPDATE"

Hi all! I have read more than a couple of threads on this topic. Mine is on 2014 Limited. Last occurrence was probably 8-11 times in my 10 hour drive from VA to Boston. Worst was I hangs right when I was crossing the Nj-NY through George Washington bridge where there's like 12 different directions to exit! Good thing I had my phone nav to back me up.

Anyway, I took the 4Runner to local Toyota service and although they said they don't have an official TSB that addresses the problem they uploaded a new software update. When I look at the receipt, it has the "T-SB" designation on it. Ill post the picture of the software update receipt so everyone can see and maybe use it when you talk to your local service centers for fix.

So far I used the Nav/Radio today after the update on my 60 mie roundtrip to work and no problems. I will update this threads if theres any re occurrence of the problem.
I have a 2016 4Runner (Navigation Unit) with a head unit that has constantly caused a headache. It started in 2017 when the XM tuner gave out. The dealership's solution was to replace the head unit with a refurb. I think back on it now and I don't recall changing the radio ID number with XM because I got into the vehicle and XM was already working. I got several months out of it and it started either freezing/rebooting constantly or just froze during startup and constantly rebooted. The dealership's solution was to update the radio. I then spent the next several months (sporadically) with the problem returning and the radio was updated to fix it. Now, in 2018 the problem has returned and has gotten worse even as I write this. I either get the constant reboot or frozen startup/reboot. It has gotten worse since the head unit on startup sits their with a black screen (backlit at night) for at least 15 minutes only to freeze and reboot. On average, my drive to work is 20 minutes and I get 3 sporadic minutes of actual radio usage. I have taken it to the dealership again and they say their are no updates including the map microSD card. Their solution this time was a hard reset which is a fancy they worded disconnecting the battery cable and letting it sit for 30 minutes. The dealership has done this 3 times and the problem has gotten worse. Now they want to have the vehicle in the shop for "who knows how long" so they can go over it with the Toyota engineer. This problem occurs with absolutely no bluetooth device connected at all, despite the dealership constantly asking me bluetooth related questions about the problem. I'm most likely looking at yet another head unit, making the 3 unit in 2 years! Is there anyone on here who has experienced this problem that has any kind of solution. I'm to the point now where I ready to rip the thing out of the vehicle and spend $1500 on aftermarket after I blast this problem to everyone involved including the BBB. I have listed some of the details below of what has been tried by myself.

- I have a standard Verizon Galaxy S7. I have used the bluetooth maybe 6 or 7 times in 2 years. Problem occurs without bluetooth connected. Also occurs regardless of having my phone saved in the radio or not.
- I have removed the radio's permission to see my contact and text message list.
- My phone has no special characters in the contact list or texts that would cause a problem (according to toyota).
- I have tried soft resets (holding the power button) to no avail.
- I have updated, reset every app on my phone including the operating software.
- The radio has the most current update and entune app on the radio and the phone is up to date.
- I have removed the map card to force the nav to reset.
- I have played with every setting possible in the radio and tried every combo I can think of.
- This problem occurs no matter what is actually being used on the radio. (XM, FM, NAV etc.)
- I don't use the nav regularly, maybe 5 times.

Toyota Has Done the Following:
- Replaced the head unit with a refurb
- Updated the radio at least 8 times
- Disconnected the battery 3 times

I have contacted toyota corp./entune as well. I have almost no faith they have a clue what they are doing.

If anyone can help, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Reviving this thread.

I brought my 4Runner is last week for the airbag recall and told them that my radio rebooted. Showed them a video. I updated my radio prior with the link shown above.

Toyota Downloads

I have the extended warranty, so they updated my radio and charged the extended warranty to do it. The TSB they referenced was TSB 0279-19. I attached the TSB that they referenced. Radio rebooted when I went to pick up the truck. Recorded the video. They asked for me to drop off the truck and they gave me a loaner today. They said they're going to open a case with Toyota and see what they can do. It may take a few days. I'll post an update when I hear back.

Just picked up my 4Runner. They contacted Toyota's techline team and spoke to them. The tech tried to reflash my radio with the update and the radio wasn't taking it. The tech noticed that the firmware update didn't change when I brought it in to get the airbag recall taken care of. The techline team advised them to hard reset my radio and try it. That did the trick, in regards to flashing the radio. My original firmware was 010192 and after he flashed it, it changed to 01019E. I'll keep driving my truck and see how it goes. Hopefully it works!

Thanks for the software update

Thanks for the link to Toyota Downloads.
My 2017 4Runner SR5 Premium was suffering from the same multimedia system reset. The software update worked as described.

Is that downloads page no longer valid? I have been having this issue happen since day one after buying my 15 LTD, just did the Entune app update and hopefully that will finally fix it.
