Navigation/SOS Subscription

Anyone actually using their navigation/SOS button in the infotainment system, paying for the monthly subscription? I’m still under the time frame where it’s free from date of purchase but I’m just going to use my phone. For SOS services my phone has that too.

I don’t know how much a month it is but I guess it’s just for older people who still use flip phones or something? Personally paying a monthly fee for navigation seems so crazy. Unless they charge you because they’re constantly updating the maps?

Idk how quickly Apple adds new roads to their Maps app but with Apple CarPlay it seems some of these features aren’t really geared towards customers like me.

We have a 2018 Sienna, the Navigation help was $8 a month after the free trial. Decided I can find and enter a destination myself.

The dynamic navigation update feature is free for 3 years. That updates an individual route when you select one.

There are a few options you can look at:

Download maps before off roading and out of cell service.
Google Maps and Gia Maps (best around IMO) have these options.

GPS Communicator: Take a look at the Garmin product line or something like that.
I use the Garmin In Reach Mini and have it paired with my phone. It can send text messages, give weather reports and track gps when out of cell range AND has an emergency SOS button for when shit gets real.

There are much more robust options out there for a comparable monthly subscription fee.
