I am new to this forum, and I love it. I just sold my 2003 Tundra that was hard to see go. I have been a member of Tundra Solutions since I had it and just made the move over to this. I am just about ready to make the purchas of a new 2006 Limited V8 4Runner but have a couple of questions. I have decided on all the options and color apart from one, to get the navi system or the 6-disc CD changer, and these are my questions:

1. How well does the navi really work?
2. Is bluetooth available on the 6-disc or only the navi, and does it work with all cell phones that are bluetooth enabled or just some?
3. with the 6-disc you get 2 more speakers, are they missed that much when you get the navi?
4. does sattelite radio work with both of them?

thank you soooo much for your help, I cant wait to get her. I will post pictures ASAP! this will be my second 4runner. I had a 2000 for three years and loved it!

1. The navigation system that Toyota/Lexus put on their vehicles in excellent. My navigation system has gotten me out of a lot of traffic jams and the destinations have been almost perfectly accurate on the map! In addition, these navs are packed with extra features like a date book, service reminder, and many different ways to search for a POI. It also has a cool backup camera when you shift into reverse!

2. The bluetooth is only available with the navigation system. It is built into the display of the unit. When you get the navigation system, you can't get the indash 6-CD changer.

3. I didn't notice much of a difference with 10 speakers. Instead of the speakers, you get two small blind spot mirrors which are very helpful once you figure out how to use them. They are very helpful when backing out of parking spots.

4. Sorry, I am not sure about this one.
 
The bluetooth will work with all phones in some manner or another. For example, you will not find a GSM phone that will not work with the system (i.e. Cingular, T-Mobile, old ATT phones). You may have some difficulty with Verizon and som Sprint models. These phones have had a reputation for being "crippled" in their bluetooth implementation. The E815 Moto for Verizon is there best implemented bluetooth phone. I myself use GSM, and have had no problems using the built-in bluetooth on my Jeep GC. I use it as an example because most car manufacturers that implement bluetooth use extraordinaryly similar systems. Also, my phones work great with my friends SC430 (Which will be the same as the 4runner).

Let me know what type of phone you will be using and I can tell you more specifics if there are issues that I know of. Hope it helps...

I really think I am going to go with the navigation system because it really sounds like it helps alot and if you dont miss the two speakers then i really think that i am going to do it! also i am going to be using a palm treo cell phone with it, do you know how they work with it?

is satellite radio available on the navigations system or just the 6-disc. do i need to by an external antenne or how does that work? also how nice are the dvd systems for the back?

Who is your cell phone service provider? I have verizon wireless and my phone doesn't work very well with the bluetooth navigation system in the Lexus RX400h. I can't port my phone book over to the navigation system and I can't dial on the nav when the vehicle is moving. I basically still have to look down at my phone to make an outgoing call. On incoming calls, the bluetooth nav is great!

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your other two questions.
 
You will be using the treo 650, which is one of the phones I have used. With earlier software versions (firmware) on the treo there was some difficulty with getting pairing, phonebook transfers and such done. Let me know what service provider you are using, and if you are buying the treo from the service provider and I can help you a little better...

I actually am just looking into the phones as well, and am trying to decide whether to get the sprint or verizon. which would work better with the bluetooth in my 4runner? thanks again for all your help!

I am going in soon to complete my order on my runner, but i just really want to know if i can get satellite radio on the navigation system. my ipod is going to work awesome with the new aux input and my phone also should work slick, it is just the satellite radio question that is holding me back.

can anyone help?

DOES ANYONE HAVE PHOTOS OF THE NEW 2006 NAVIGTION. THE REASON I AM ASKING FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS IS THAT I AM CURRENTLY LIVING IN MEXICO FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THE DEALERS HERE JUST DONT HAVE MUCH AT ALL OR KNOW MUCH FOR THAT MATTER! I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR HELP

AWESOME! THANKS. THAT REALLY LOOKS GREAT AND LOOKS LIKE FROM WHAT EVERYTHING I HAVE HEARD AND SEEN THAT THE NAVI WILL WORK WITH MY IPOD, CELL AND SATELLITE, I AM SO EXCITED!
 
Hey Cornhustler,
Be advised that the Toyota Navi system does NOT have DVD video. There is a way (adapter) on the aftermarket that supposely allows DVD playback over the manufacturer's Navi unit. If you are looking to playback DVD's and/or a TV tuner; then you should strongly consider an aftermarket model. Do a search here to see some models which others have purchased. As for me personally, I can NOT justify spending the $$$ for the Toyota Navi systems. I'd spend my money on one of the aftermarket models.
 
HELP HELP!!! Feedback through speakers

I installed the 04 camry nav unit into my 03 SR5 the JBL amp fit just nice but I get a slight feedback through speakers. I grounded the amp and feedback is less but I still get it I can still hear it. It is annoying. Any thoughts.

1. did you happen to run the speaker wires together with power and ground wires? you should keep them separate to avoid to avoid conducted noise from the power line.

2. do you have more than one source of ground for the system? having two grounding points will create a ground loop, which basically acts like an antennae and will introduce noise into the system.
 
Thanks for answer.

I got a JBL amp and it is small so I stuffed it right under the Nav system All cableds were long enough so I didn't change anything. it is all toyota. only the Amp is not sitting on the metal so I ran fat wires to mass and noise went down but not out.
