Navigation unobtanium?

I looking to buy an '05 Limited V6 2WD with navigation, side airbags, and Xreas suspension but not with a sunroof or the spoiler. There are many Limiteds (both V6 and V8) but almost all of them are packaged with sunroof, spoiler and no navigation.
1. Has anyone purchased a Limited V6 (or even a Limited V8) in 2WD with a navigation but no sunroof?
2. Let's assume I can't find what I want and have to "order" what I want. For those that have "ordered" a truck in '05, were you satisfied with going that route? The reason I ask is that I'm being told by dealers that placing an "order" (which only puts the dealer in line for whenever the next vehicle that is outfitted as "ordered" appears in the region) means the vehicle comes in "6 weeks", "12 weeks" or "maybe never". To add to this, the dealer can't guarantee the current $1,000 rebate will apply (or that any rebate will apply) nor can the dealer give me a trade-in value on my vehicle until the "ordered" 4Runner comes in. Frankly, the order process appears fraught with pitfalls. What if the 4Runner comes in and now the dealer "low balls" my trade-in thinking I'm stuck because I gave them a $500 deposit 2 months ago?
3. My alternative is to buy a Limited with a lot more options than (for a lot more money) than I want or will use.

For what it is worth, I've added aftermarket navigations to my current truck (Tahoe) three years ago and the truck before that (Expedition) six years ago. I love navigation and would not buy a current vehicle without it.

2) Yes, ordering take's a long time, maybe never. Yes, the rebate is a time sensitive thing, it only applies during the period it's being offered, although they usually extend these quite a while.

And yes, they cannot appraise your vehicle until you decide to trade it in. I spent two weeks shopping for my truck. They appraised my trade the first time I went in. When I was ready to pull the trigger on the sale two weeks later, they had to re-appraise again. BUT, I wouldn't trade for what they were asking and walked out on the deal, they stopped me at the door and increased the trade a few hundred.

Use a personal check for the deposit. They usually will not cash the check until you purchase the vehicle. You can always put a stop payment on it before backing out of the deal.

Also realize, you will not get the best price for the new truck if you special order it. The dealer wants to sell/deal what they already have in stock. This can mean a few hundred or more dollars difference.
 
Most of the 4Runners are ordered with certian options. i.e., almost all Limiteds will get sunroof. Only a few sports editions and SR5 will be sans sunroof.
 
If the navigation system is your main concern, you have nothing to worry about....

As many of us have done on this board already, you can simply buy the factory navigation system and install it in your 4Runner.

The great thing is that you can buy the navigation system for less than the price of the factory option!

If you do decide to go that route, I would suggest that you buy a 4Runner with the standard stereo system--not the JBL system. The navigation system is an easier install when replacing the standard stereo and the voice commands will work through the stereo system speaker.

I just purchased a 05 V8 Limited, I ordered it because I wanted the salsa red with all the bells and whistles. It took a month, but my dealer found it in a different region. So, talk to your dealer about looking in different regions. Also, most Limiteds come with one of two option packages. Go on the Toyota web site and build your 4Runner and you can see which options are available.

Just curious...but why would anyone want a Limited without a sunroof?? That will be building a real "nerd" of a vehicle that will likely be hard to find, and even harder to sell down the road.....

The only "real" factual reasons I have seen is for people who are so tall, they require the extra 1.7 inches if headroom that deleting the sunroof would give. Or if you live in a climate where it's pointless most of the year to have the sunroof open (think super cold or super rainy climates). Or maybe someone is going to go off-road REAL hard, the sunroof does take some structural rigidity away from the body.

Otherwise, I think it's irrational thinking that a sunroof is "bad" because of the "chance" there will be problems down the road. Or the excuse "I don't like them". Then leave it closed all the time with the cover pulled shut.
Rather have it and not need it, than not have it and want it later.
 
here's a little food for thought....

go in there and put a deposit down on the vehicle you want to "order" but conditional upon them delivering the truck to you by a set date (say 60 days MAX.) If they do not meet that requirement you simply pull your deposit.

If your salesman/woman says they can't do it, ask to speak to the General Manager or threaten to walk out. 9 times out of 10 the things the salesperson says they "can't do", can be done. They just don't want to commit the time and resources to tracking down and negotiating getting the vehicle for you. It's alot easier for them to convince you to "settle" for the car they already have on the lot. If they are serious about your business, they will bend over backwards to get that perfect car for you.

Surely the Toyota network shows inventories all over the country and if there is a car out there meeting your specs, your dealer will contact the dealer sitting on the vehicle and make arrangements to get it delivered to them (you) ASAP to close the deal.

I would check the legality of it, but I don't think they can keep a deposit if they fail to deliver the vehicle. I could see them keeping your deposit if they order it and it comes in, and then you back out. But if they fail to find the vehicle as you requested, your deposit should be 100% refundable.

The dealers usually order the 4Runners in the most popular configuartions, here the Limiteds have everything, half have Nav half don't;):

Sunroof and NAVS

Sunroofs are listed as an "option" on the Limited but whoever said almost all Limited come with sunroofs may be right. However, I can think of at least $600 to $900 reasons why I don't want one, including the fact I never use the sunroof in my Mercedes (nor in any previous car or truck I've owned with a sunroof) and the fact that there is the potential for a leak with a sunroof (as my truck sits outside half of the time). A sunroof adds only a few bucks to a trade-in value. Frankly, whether the value a sunroof may add to a trade-in value is not really a consideration to me. If it was a consideration, I would be better off taking the $600 additional cost of the sunroof (assuming I get it a cost) and investing the $600 over the life of the truck.

Navigation is still rare on 4Runners. Based on what I have been told by dealer after dealer, only a small percentage of all 4Runners are being shipped with NAV because only a small percentage of 4Runner buyers want to pay the extra cost to get navigation. (Hey, maybe that will add to my trade-in value.)

There have been some good comments here and I've decided to place an order for a 4Runner Limited, optioned the way I want. I may end up having to buy a sunroof if that's all there is but I'm hoping I can avoid having to get the spoiler (Jeez, it's hugh!).
 
Contrary to the above posting.....the select mode 4X4, the V-6, and tha MOONROOF were all top priorities on my list when buying my 4Runner. Like a couple of others here have said; it's all about what feature(s) are important to you at the time of purchase. Many of us have made a decision at the time of purchase which we later regretted in the future. But then again, some of us wanted certain features that we couldn't afford and it later turned out to work for the better. Here are a couple of instances for me. The two sports I look at had the JBL system which is a biotch for aftermarket upgrades. With the standard system, I was able to just drop in a Scion HU that I dearly love (I am not a big power audiophlie). Also, I wanted the SE for the steering controls, hood scoop, and bigger brakes. But I did NOT want the XRag system because I knew in the future that I would lift the truck and did NOT want any problems with that fluid based shock system. The only way I would buy one was with the moonroof. I found two SE's during my search and neither had a moonroof--thus they were eliminated.

My point is..... that about 75% of the time I am in my 4Runner I either have the moonroof shade slide open (even at night), the moonroof tilted, or the moonroof opened. I get full enjoyment everyday from the feature that was most important to me. For some it's the DVD-Nav while others it's that XREAS or whatever. Just choose a cluster of features that you will USE and not just to have on/in your truck for show!

edited: I forgot to mention that my climate warranted my decision to lean so heavily toward the moonroof. With that being said, I'd still feel the same way if I lived in the northeast, upper midwest, deep south or Canada. It was important to me because I KNEW it would be the option that I would enjoy the most.

Several years ago I was in the market for a new car. My wife and I went to look at a Camry, and then realized we really liked the Avalon. While at the dealer my wife says, all I want is a sunroof. So I tell her about some of the bad experiences I've seen and heard of with sunroofs. She says, I had one on a Corolla and I really loved it and I never had any problems with it. I compromised because I always wanted leather seats and she didn't like them. So the deal was we will get the sunroof for her and the leather for me. Well, needless to say, after a short time I loved the sunroof, and disliked the leather.

The first time I had seen the rear spoiler I thought it looked odd and didn't care weather it would be on my truck. Well after one month of having it, I
