Navigation Video Switcher System

This could be old news but the service manager told me all about it when I dropped my Fo' Runna' off for service this morning.

This new Navigation Video Switcher System that works with most all Lexus OEM Navigation System. Once installed, it allows factory Navigation Screen to display up to 4 external Video Sources. The system support up to 4 Audio/Video inputs (VCR/DVD/Camera/
Game Consoles, etc) and 4 Audio/Video outputs (1 Custom Navigation Interface plus 3 extra LCD monitors outputs). Each of the 4 AV outputs can independently select/watch any of the 4 AV sources. With a flip of a switch, AV1 can select between Navigation map or our Navigation Video Switcher source to be shown on the Navigation Screen. The navigation system still works in the background when you switch to our system (Navigation Voice guidance will come on when it's supposed to). A small wireless RF remote control is use for the AV sources selection.

No clue... once I get a few bills paid off (promise I made to myself) I might look into it. I just found out about it from the service manager at the local dealership.

I believe this is actually the AVElectronic box found on www.avelectronic.com. They make tons of applications, including a complete plug-n-play option for the 4th Gen 4Runner. This means you don't have to cut any wires at all when you install it. All you have to do is pull out the rear-passenger panel to gain access to the dvd-rom and insert a bypass cable between the computer and the stock video cable. I can only speak for the 2004 model, as this is what I have been working with. The guy's name that I have been working with at AVElectronic is Sam -- he's been extremely helpful and a pleasure to work with, so give him a call if you're interested. We did notice that the nav screen in my 4Runner had some ghosting issues, so we are working to correct that now. But I have seen this product in action and it is quite amazing. Add in the ipod interface from Vais and you've got yourself a complete plug-n-play audio/video setup. So I guess the age-old question has finally been settled ...

Can you play DVD's on your stock Toyota 4Runner navigation?

A resounding YES!

I spoke to a guy at AVelectronics and he told me that it doesn't work with the '06 NAV but they are supposedly developing a unit that will work. I couldn't get through via telephone to anyone at lextacy and they didn't reply to an email I sent them. If you have any year prior to '06 I would go for the AVelectronics version, because the two units look the same and the lextacy place seems kinda shady.
