Need 2-way radio reccom.

So after going offroading with the guys in the dc/va/md area, I realized I really want some good two-way radios to use when offroading and vacationing.

I was originally looking at the Motorola T5950's, T5500R, and the SX700R

The key features I need are:
1) At least a 5 mile range
2) Rechargable

So what kinds/models do you all have or think are good and where can I get them the cheapest?

I can't offer much advice about those radios, but if you plan on doing regular off-roading, you really should get a CB radio. I tried to go the way of hand-held for a while as well, but eventually if you want to do it right, get a CB.

SPEAKING of that . . . .. I happen to have an extra Cobra WX75ST CB radio. It is a completely hand held unit. I think it retails for between $100 and $140 but I would give you a deal on it. It is brand new, in the box, never opened. You could even get an antenna in the next few weeks and I could help you install it at the 4Runner meet. Let me know what you think.

cheap cb's can be found on fleabay (ebay). if you really get into the offroading stuff, definitely invest in a cb with a GREAT antenna. that will give you more distance than those frs radios. Remember that the FRS radios can not transmit around a mountain so once your friend is around a curve the signal drops significantly. The cb will have the safe effect but not as severe as the FRS.

if you want to spend more then 50$ check out motorola's website. but good radios you need a FCC license to operate. not sure if its worth it but just an idea to think about. i think they run on gmrs if im correct. then you get into vhf and uhf bands which all require FCC license's too. or kenwood has good ones too.
