Need '88 4runner Wiring Diagrams

I like the Toyota factory wiring manuals, but I just learned that the price has risen to $60.00 under the new arrangement with Helm Inc. Anybody know where I can get wiring diagrams for an '88 for a more reasonable price?

The project involves a transmission swap/conversion: '88 5 spd into an '89 automatic. I'm thinking that I really want to get the wiring right, like having working backup lights, 4wd dash light, and clutch lockout switch. I want to swap instrument clusters too (both vehicles are SR5 with gauges). So I'm wondering if the body harness from the '88 will work in the '89. Or will I need all '89 stuff for a manual model (ECU, engine harness, body harness)? -- Matt

i think either 4x4wire, pirate4x4 or ih8mud has it. Do a thorough search before you post questions, the people on those sites can be rather heinous.

Both auto and manual trans trucks have b/u light, 4WD light, and neutral start switches, but you may have to lengthen wiring and/or swap connectors to make them work.

If you search you can find an 88 Factory manual that has diagrams.

Right you are! I converted a '84 22R/5spd xtra cab to run a 22RE using a computer and wiring harness from an automatic '89 4runner. Everything ran fine after modifying just the neutral safety circuit. I never did try to get the backup lights and 4wd indicator working though. Having an extra (manual type) wiring harness (from the '88) should give me all the wires and connectors I need. Now I just need to get busy on finding a wiring diagram for the '88. -- Matt
