Need a engine

I have a 98 4-runner 4cyl automatic. I had a cracked head and I guess my son drove it a little to long with water in the oil. So I replaced the head and a month later got it running only to find that it had a spun bearing, all that work. A rebuild is running around $1500+ and who knew what cheap parts are in them or I'm thinking about rebuild the engine, which I may need some help. I'm looking to go as cost efficient and gas efficient as I can. Anyone know some good pistons and a good crank kit that I might want to go with. And is there any other goodies I might want to put in it to make it more gas efficient. thanks

my suggestion as usual is going to be stick with Toyota parts if your not upgrading to something better. Just keep in mind you can pick up a used engine for under $900.

SO, was it a cracked header that started it all?

It looks like it may have. I just got in the engine and the balance shaft through a bearing. The balance shaft then destroyed that area. I believe the engine is shot. I'm looking for a good core.

I also had a cracked head, CYL #3. I ended up having a trusted mechanic do the engine work. He installed 2 new heads (aftermarket by JE) for $700 each + labor. I have been driving for 3 months now with no problems and it has a 1 year warranty. The details can be found in my build.

You can get an engine for $1k - $3k + install.

:)
