99% freeway mileage. Oil and changed every 4000 miles. I take very excellent care of all my vehicles. You will not find a 4runner like this unless you go back in time.
It's got 67k miles and I just replaced the -original- tires...
Non -smoker, always garaged. Has the light but torky aluminum V-6 motor, so it can pull a boat easily yet get good gas mileage. Average gas mileage has been around 22 city and up to 25 freeway. One trip I got 310 miles on a tank full of regular gas. And it does not have a large tank, standard size. I think 13 or 14 gallons. It is Millennium Silver, with tan and black accented interior. All stock and not messed with by anyone. Better handling and SAFER than any SUV I have driven. Handles more like a sports car than a SUV.
If you have driven the newer 4runners, you will easily notice they are bigger, bulkier, with more plastic parts on the body.
As with almost all products being manufactured these days, the recent 4runners just aren't as well made as the ones a number of years ago. I drove the base $43,000 model at the dealer last month and it felt like a boat handling wise and cramped inside.
The folks I have spoken with at the Toyota dealerships even conclude that the Toyotas made from 1998 to 2002 were some of the best production years for quality and design, with the fewest problems and best reliability.
The vehicles produced in the years following that, have been more about profit than the quality we would have expected form Toyota.
I have a friend who has a 2000 4runner SR5 that commutes over the Mountain from Santa Cruz to Palo Alto 4 days a week since the vehicle was new. Other than gas, filters, oil and brake pads, her car has already gone 217,000 with no service needed other than changing the automatic transmission fluid which is recommended every 120k. Oh, also her tires were changed too of course, probably a few times.
Also, the back area of the 4runner, when the rear seats are folded down, is easily 6 feet in length, with more than 3 feet in height, so there's plenty of room for carrying just about anything. People even use that area to camp/sleep.
And with the rear 2 inch receiver towing package, you can slide in a rear bike rack carrier on it that keeps the bikes low, out of the way and aerodynamic.
Off the top of my head....that's the nutshell version.
Blue book is around $12-13k, but I have seen some with low mileage like mine selling for $18k at car dealerships, as the blue book isn't realistic or very accurate with very clean low mileage vehicles.
