Need a Mechanic - Las Vegas area

Noticed a rear axle seal leak about a week ago. I replaced the seal itself about nine years ago from a previous leak and it held up this whole time.

At this point I think I should just replace everything on the axle as my rig has over 240K and I'm sure the bearings, races, etc. are original.

Looking for a good mechanic in the Las Vegas area who can either R&R the whole thing OR I can bring them the axle and have them remove / replace the bearing, races, etc.

If your rear diff isn't making any extra noise then I would just replace the rear axle seals, retainers, and wheel bearings and call it good.

That was my plan. Not going to touch the actual diff.

You could be the mechanic if you have the time, space and willingness to do the work. Not having the tools isn't a good excuse because the money you save doing your own work will quickly pay for the tools.

Just so you know, the rear axle seal/bearing job has got to be one of the most common jobs for these rigs that the paid guys screw up. That's auto mechanic shops and machine shops.

You should watch these videos to learn about the job so you can better select a shop to do it. With the knowledge I share, you can question the people doing the work to figure out if they know what they're doing or they are hacks.

I have brought in axles with all the parts and they did all the press work. Turn around time was a day.

I think it was around $75 an axle for the press work, which was worth it for me.

Try partsouq for real cheap OEM parts.

Adam’s Driveline did the press work on my rear axles when I replaced the seals & bearings. They did the press work perfectly as I measured it before & after their work.

Dan’s Driveline did my gears when I had4.88’s put in. They did good work, only a couple of minor complaints. They didn’t tighten the rear diff drain bolt (it was finger tight, but it’s better than being over-tightened I guess), and they also left some bailing wire around the front drive shaft, but it wasn’t making any noises or anything. It’s been many thousands of miles now and the gears are going strong.

For other maintenance stuff I would go to Wally’s Precision. They only do Toyota/Lexus & Honda/Acura.
