Need a new sound system for a 1999 sr5

Whats Up? its my first post...

Just bought a 1999 sr5. Its my second yota, the other was a 1995 but it seemed like it had a nicer system... im wondering what i can do to revamp mine without decimating my cargo space? fixing up the doors and the dash is pretty straight forward but has anyone put a sub in the wall box in the trunk? theres not a speaker in the trunk in my model and i definitely dont have JBL sound as its the base sr5. it needs some help for sure, i'd like to hear what some of y'all did.

I'd add a new head unit and replace at least the front two speakers. I'd probably amp them too.

A few people have turned the side cargo compartment into a sub box, but I think building a regular box would be easier. You can search for the guys who built their sub enclosures into the side.

I agree with Clemsonfan15. I'd add a new head unit and upgrade the door speakers at first. And you can put a sub in the wall box, but that comes with a lot of work and it is less protected. Also you would only be able to fit an 8" sub-woofer in the wall box. I would suggest a low profile box that you can push up against the back of the seats. What my friend did was that he took a low profile, under the seat box for a pickup and put it on it's side. He then mounted it to the floor. There are a lot of possibilities out there. One more thing, if you do get a sub-woofer, you are preferably going to want a new head unit. New head unit = easier install.
