Need a Stereo for my 1st Gen

One of the reasons I sold my Dodge 2500 V10 was better fuel economy driving to see my kids 560 miles away. Next trip is in 2 weeks.

I have XM radio I use on my motorcycle, and want to use it in the 4Runner. Unfortunately, the stereo doesn't have any aux input (at least not on the face), so I'd like to replace it with something affordable that I can input the XM.

Suggestions please!

You could get one of those FM transmitter doohickeys. Hook it up to the XM unit then tune the radio to the same frequency. Presto you have XM playing on your stock radio.

I wouldn't. I use one with the factory deck in my Explorer, and you can't get cross-country without constantly searching for a clear frequency. The airwaves are jammed.

I just went shopping for a deck to go in the gaping hole in my dash, and nearly everything has aux input in the face, anymore. I ended up walking into a neighborhood audio shop and told them I needed a cheap deck and cheap speakers, couldn't spend more than $100. Walked out with a no-name deck (with aux input) and JVC 6.5's for $110.

So there's that option. If you're looking for something quality, I can't help ya.

Think I'll check out the local Audio Express. Looks like I should be able to get a new unit installed with both aux and USB on the face for under $150.

The FM transmitter is a last resort. I'll be traversing LA, and the airwaves there are REALLY jammed full.

if you use the XM SureConnect the transmitter clips right onto the antenna mast so you will never have problems with interference. But you will be better off with a new head unit.

do you have a fry's electronics near you.

i think i saw a headunit with cd/am/fm for like $39.

i think there was a headunit with the above with aux and usb for $79.

i don't believe it included installation.
