Need A/V for windows

I just got my old laptop working again. A/v expired. Looking at (CNET downloads) Avast, Avira or AVG. I have used Avast recently on another machine. Just heard about MS Essentials download. What is a good A/V download? for Win XP. Will be running Advanced system Care, and possible Defender. thanks guys

Iused AVG amost two years ago on a P4 2.4/800 and it seems SLOW. Manual updates, not a real favorite. I used Avast on a backup machine (dual boot died) and I like it. Not familier with Avire or MS Essentials. thanks

OK so you havent tried it recently....you asked for advice and I gave it to you.

Its up to version 9 FYI.

That p4 was slow btw.

Yeah AVG is my favorite freeware av.

I use AVG (free), Avast! (free), and Windows Security Essentials (free)...on different computers, of course.

well, my dual-boot back up machine died. Good, that the laptop is up again. Portable back up is all with a 20 GB HD. I guess it is a toss us between AVG and Window d/l.

I'm using Avast. I've heard similar complaints about AVG and it sucking up a lot of resources.

just installed Windows essentials. Thanks everyone. On it right now, updating all night long. been down for 7 months. Just a little handy laptop, missed it.
