I'm going to look at a '94 4Runner and wanted to get some advice on what to keep an eye out for. It is a V6 with 121,000 miles, clean title and that is really about all I know at this point. I figured some of you that have these
2nd gen. vehicles would be able to tell me what to stay away from.

Also at the same lot is a '92 Land Cruiser with 120,000 miles. I'm going to take a look at it while I'm there. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Clint

Head gasket head gasket head gasket! I bought the same year with the same amount of miles 7 years ago, the engine died at 140k. Be careful please! I'm pretty sure there was a recall or something like that. A quick google search should bring up some information.

I've also had chronic trouble with the rear axle seals breaking over and over. I think I've finally got those in good health though.

I bought a '92 v6 automatic after my '90 4cyl manual was written off in an accident and I won't buy another 3L V6 toyota.

I had it for less than a year and the head gasket blew (it was -25 deg C that day). The saving factor was that my 4runner hadn't had the headgasket replaced under the recall so Toyota replaced it for free. The problem now is that I don't trust the headgasket.

The other major problem I have is that the V6 auto is really slow and bad on gas. If I use the cruise control the thing loses speed on hills to the point where it drops down a gear or two and the engine revs like crazy but it still takes forever to accelerate back up to the set speed and then it overshoots the set speed. I also track my mileage and it gets about 15MPG. My previous 4runner had the 2.4L 4cyl and a manual and it was quicker and it gave me 20MPG.
