Need advice ASAP on TRD PRO roof rack

:ybrick: I have had my Pro less than a month. The dealer removed the roof rack and installed a deletion kit at my request so I could fit in the garage where I work. Today we went through a car wash and water started coming in through the seatbelts near the roof. Upon inspection all 4 inserts and their bolts had come off in the car wash. Ugh. The dealer says he will make it right tomorrow since service is closed today. Any advice? I have been reading this forum for years and love the insight I get from here!

There is no way those bolts,if screwed in, could have come off in the wash.

More likely scenario is the dealership just put the plastic pieces on that cover up the mounting holes without screwing in the bolts.I can see those covers coming off in a car wash.Those covers don't seem too watertite anyway,surprised you haven't had any water leaking in from the rain.

If water started leaking in,have them inspect EVERYTHING for water damage.

Best advice though is never take your car to a car wash,wash by hand.

I don't see how avoiding the car wash should be the answer. The OP should be able to take their car to the carwash if they want to. The dealer obviously *ucked up the roof rack delete. They either didn't install the bolts like they said or failed to use silicone sealant. Dealer needs to own up to the mistake and fix it correctly and make sure there isn't any other electrical damage, mold or mildew.

The bolts were not found in the carwash. Only the black tab pieces. My husband did a walk through with the worker.

I say avoid carwash because the brushes tend to scratch the paint,handwashing is always better.

You should see my pinstripes from driving though brush on the trail... the local car wash is the least of my paints concern.

That said, I don't particularly baby my paintwork on trucks. It gets in the way of actually enjoying my stuff.

My only concern with the dealer making it right, is making it worse… I would ask what it is they intend to do to remediate.

I agree that is is highly unlikely that you would have lost the bolts in the wash.

I would have light concerns with them removing door panels or headliner to locate any water damage. Just make sure they put it back together without any broken clips or wonky panels.

Personally I would ask for an comped extended warranty to combat against any long term electrical issues.

I would also want this event documented in writing in case you ever have water related issues which may might not fall under a factory warranty.

I have a pro on order....... I was thinking of pulling the roof rack off, because it will never be used. Has anybody done this? Do you have to drop the ceiling inside the 4runnar?

You have a higher chance of getting answers if you post this in the 5th Gen section…as the Pro you have on order is 5th Generation.

From my experience, I have a 20 pro.

couple things
There is another pro owner near me, and he has deleted his rack...I think it looks odd. the pro rack is something people love or hate, but I think the 4r pro looks like its missing something with any roof rack at all. IMHO it at least needs a regular 4r rack.

second. NO you do not have to remove the headliner. BUT and this is a big BUTT. The PRO rack is held on with RED loctite. Dont ask me why....but westcott has a good video on it.

Anyways, i found the info AFTER i messed up and I did have to take down the back of my headliner to reattach the clips that the bolts screw into. I dont know that is neccessary to use heat. Just done remove one screw and then the other...(two per attachment point) back out half turn each, going back and forth, otherwise you can accidentally rotate the internal clip off its tab.

and use Butyl tape as your sealant.
