Need advice on a 6.5" Navigation/CD Player Unit

I just got a 2005 SR5 and want to put in a good navigation unit.

I noticed Eclipse has one with nice audio outputs also 4 channels of 50 watts as well as nice nav features and a cool screen.

It also plays DVDs but not while you are moving :mad:

I was also hoping to get something where I could use Ice Link for my Ipod.

I just started my research on the same project.

Have you looked at the Pioneer Avic-N1 or Avic-N2? It is not a double Din but has all the goodies in one. Great Price. It has one set of RCA's also.
 
I looked at those. The features look good and all but they have a pop up screen and I want to get one that flush mounts in my dash for better looks.

Pioneer had an older version that flush mounted but I dont see it on their website anymore.

I looked at this site. It is amazing how similar this unit is to the factory NAVs. My denso unit has very similar menus as the Eclipse. I wonder if they licensed the same software to run the User Interface.
 
I was at a Toyota Dealership this week and saw them advertising the Eclipse Navigation and that is where I got the idea. I just did not want to pay top dollar for the dealer retail prices.
 
Kenwood also has a flush mount one... I think somebody on this site has one? I've been looking for one also, I'm just scared it won't actually fit in the dash without modification to the dash.
 
the kenwood will fit...i've actually heard that it's not tall enough so you'd have to figure out how to cover the space. do a search on this sight you'll find it.
 
I was looking at the Eclipse too, but I hate to lose the ten speaker set up that I've got. Anybody know if that thing will handle this?
 
Yes the Eclipse AVN should handle your 10 speakers just as good if not better then your stock head unit. It has 4 channels of 50 watts which is quite good.
 
What a few weeks for the new Eclipse AVN line with better features and built in hard drive.. Not to mention it will have 5volt preouts instead of the current version which has only .8volt preouts..
 
Eclipse does not authorize online sales.. However you can find products on Ebay.. There a couple of online retailers that sell Eclipse products but it's not authorized to sell online and only come 1 year warranty instead of Eclipse's 3 year warranty if bought from a authorized dealer.. www.woofersetc.com is great site to buy Eclipse products and they get it direclty from Eclipse. I have bought seveal items from this site and my packages always come from Eclipse...

thanks. the thing is....they don't even have the function to locate dealers in your area on their website. is this because you have to buy straight from them? also....i'm assuming SAVV (you mentioned it on another thread) doesn't do online sales either, but they at least provide a search for local dealers, which i will be visiting soon. thanks for all the info. :)
 
Kdubz, Pioneer is coming with a double din Nav piece (AVIC-D1) in mid April (retail of approx 1499$ ). It will have most of the features of an AVIC-N1 except the ability to play dvd video. However, it does have a/v composite inputs so any DVD player or Xbox, PS2 will plug directly into it. I've seen it already and it has a very stock looking appearance to it. It would match well to our interiors.
 
One more thing, the CD-IB100 (Direct IPOD adaptor) is available this month from Pioneer and will work with the AVIC-D1. It should retail at approx 99$ U.S.) You can control your IPOD from the D1 screen and hide your IPOD somewhere in the 4R.
 
That hurt my feelings Lizardking. I work for Pioneer. To tell you the truth, on the head unit side of things, Pioneer is the same as Premier in most respects. Same transports, laser pick ups etc... Just a few, sometimes key features like extra or high voltage pre-outs and a two year warranty seperate the two line ups.
In Car A/V, Pioneer doesn't make any Nav products in the Premier line.
Just kidding about the hurt feelings. I get abuse and praise (mostly praise) every day for working for Pioneer. I'm sure it would be exactly the same if I was a rep for Eclipse.
In Canada we have a 95% market share in Nav with the AVIC-N1. I guess it helps that Pioneer has the most detailed mapping of Canada available.
In 100 metres, turn left, Igloo will be on your right eh....

Didn't mean to hurt you feelings..I like my Pioneer Elite DVD player for the home but not care much for Pioneer stuff.. It's good stuff for the average user but I tend not buy any audio Wal-Mart sells..lol
 
Reptile...why would the AVIC-D1 not be able to play DVD's? I don't see why Pioneer would make that without the capability to play dvd's built in.
