Need Advice on a tire/lift quote 2008 4runner SR5

I bought a 2008 SR5 4Runner back in august and recently have looked into getting some larger tires with liftkit. Can someone with some vendor knowledge chime in if this is a good deal and decent products? I want to make sure I'm not getting screwed.

I do not plan on doing serious off-roading, mostly city driving as I live near DC, but will be taking it into the mountains for skiing, mtn biking, etc when I can. Is this too much in terms of the lift size? etc.

-Ready Lift - Lift Kit: 3 inch rear 2 inch front. $435
-Alignment: $150
-4 Nitto Terra Grapple Tires (285/70/17) $259 each --this is the higher speed rating model, cheapest i found them online was about 230. but they'd charge $25 each for installation if i buy them from online.
-Labor $325
MLB: $80

TOTAL: $2050.00

Way too high IMO. A spacer lift shouldn't cost over $200. For that price I'd be looking at new shocks/coils (something like Bilstein 5100s and OEM FJ coils). An alignment around here runs $60-$70. $150 will get you a lifetime alignment through Firestone. I doubt you need the tires with the higherspeed rrating, and probably would be fine with the P rated ones which are $210 at Discount Tire. The labor isn't too far off, but it is a very easy job to do yourself and save $300.

If I were doing a spacer lift I would go with a Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift for less than $200. That way you are much less likely to have issues with caster when you get the alignment done. I would also go with the lower speed rated tires. The lower the load/speed rating the more comfortable the ride will be. 4Runners are not so heavy to need the same tire as an F-350. When it comes to fitting a particular size of tire there is a good chart in the sticky in the suspension forum.

Another thing to mention is that 285s will most likely rub the upper control arm if mounted on factory wheels. You'll need either wheel spacers or aftermarket wheels with the proper off set. Also, with 3" lift, expect to need some trimming to get rid of the rubbing. You'll have to trim the bumper and remove the front mud flaps.

That would be a good setup at a much cheaper price. The BFGs have a big fan base, although I've never had them. Expect longer tread life and better off road performance with the BFG. The Nittos will be a little quieter and slightly better on the highway I believe.

If you choose the BFGs, you can get them in a 275/70/17 which is a great size but may require wheel spacers and trimming (most likely you'll need a little trimming anyway).

Should look more like this:

- Daystar Lift ~$160 for a 2.5/1.5. Or if you want 3/2 you can go Toytec or Cornfed for ~$240-$285. The TT may require a little more labor to install since there is a both a preload and topout spacer in that one. Also it looks like the Ready Lift comes with a Diff drop and skid spacer. You can buy those for ~$30.

- Alignment ~ $60-80

- Tires ~ You're on your own. Looks like a good price, but I'd urge you toward the BFG KO's over the Nitto Terra Grapplers. My brother ran both on his Tundra consecutively and the KO's where fantastic while the TG were.... meh. Okay I guess.

- Labor ~$7 + 2-4 hours of your time for a six pack of beer for your buddy to help.

- Don't know what MLB is.

Spidertrax for wider tires? Sure!

ended up going daystar

i ended up doing the 2.5/1.5 daystar, with 275.70/17 goodyear wrangler silent armors. im happy with it, although the tires arent as aggressive looking as i wanted. it does the trick. might look into some fj wheels next.

Planning 2010 FJ Coils, 5100 Bilsteins.

We've got a comparable plan going for our 2008 V6 SR5.

I've got the Bilsteins 5100 adj/ and the Rears ready to go, but still looking for good FJ coils. I'm sure well get the Daystar 2.5/1.5 also just in case we need them. Also going to swap out the rear brake lines for stainless.

Not sure about tires yet, but something better than my Dunlop stock and a Hankook mixed in would be better but want to stick close to stock size maybe a size up.

If anyone knows of a good source for at least 2009-2010 low mi FJ's coils, we are ready to buy up ....
