Need advice on buying a 4wd 2000 SR5

Hello all, I've always wanted to get a 4runner and finally my chance has arrived. I'm interested in this one. I've had a carfax run on it and no problems showed up. It was at one time(4 years ago), a corporate business car(not lease).

I am planning on test driving it wednesday(7/27) and would like to pick your brains for any issues that I should pay extra special attention for.

Also, do 4runners have timing belts or chains? Does anyone have a link for scheduled maintenance? Any preventitive maintenance issues that I should do once I am able to find one?

t4r's have timing BELTS. no particular items to look for.. but get it checked out by a professional as company cars are often abused.

as for maintenence, look at toyota.com, click on owners, then scheduled maintenance... then enter your trucks info.
 
I just purchased my 2000 TR4 Limmited 2x4 with 45k miles for $17,900.00

It was also a "Company Car" with no issues on the car fax. Let me tell you. GET IT CHECKED! This one was "Toyota Certified" and as soon as I took it out the next day I got a Check Engine light for Mass Air Flow sensor damage. Also got burnt tranny fluid and spark plugs needed changing.

I don't car about the whole company car thing because company's tend on keeping up with maintanence real well. At least I hope. hehe. Yes it could have been abused but at the same time it might not have. It's your gambel. Hope my info provided good insite on your choice!

The car is currently running like new and can't complain about a thing.
 
toyotas are very resilient, but company cars are generally quite abused. i know from experience.

the CEL for a MAF is very common, shouldve been a warrantied item! hope you didnt pay them a dime.
 
Just the deductable. $100.00 All because I was out of state (7hrs away) and could not go back to the dealer where I purchased. My crap experience is never buy a car out of state that might have some issues within a few months or days.
 
wow, you mean your warranty didnt apply at a different dealer??

thats crap man. did you buy an extended warranty? the toyota one?

if so, you gotta head back to that dealer and raise some hell.
 
Yeah I got the extended platinum warrenty for 3 more years. $1550 added to the price of the car. Crazy stuff. I did not have that Toyota "What a feeling" feel at all.
 
so the extended warranty is only good at the dealer you sign up for the warranty at?


what does it cover and how long does it last?
 
No I would have not paid any co pay if I where to simply take it right back to where I purchased it from. I had to pay the deductable because the dealer I went to was not where I purchased it. The warrenty I got covers almost everything since I got the best one. I got it for 3 years coverage. This sensor was part of that coverage.

Basicaly this other"Toyota Certified" warrenty is only good for me until 6 years or 60,000 miles from when the vehicle is new and is only good at the dealer where I purchased it. It expires on Jan 1st 2006 for me but I have to drive down to Tampa, FL where I purchased the car or I have to call this 800 number and they have to "Authorize" me to go to another dealer in my area, fill out paper work, and other garbage...but that is a pain in the but and did not know about that process when I took mine in.
 
I just bought my 99 limited yesterday and after transfering my vehicle at my county clerk the CEL came on. I took it to Advanced Auto Parts and read the code. I have read that this cleaning of the MAF sometimes works and sometimes does not.

I am going to clean it and post the results the first of the week.

To clear the ECU do you just un-hook the - battery terminal? How long do I leave it un-hooked?
