Need an OEM replacement exhaust? Walker QuietFlow SS

Walker was having a rebate deal on their QuietFlow SS mufflers and welded muffler assemblies. I bought the cat-to-tailpipe assembly from rockauto.com for $160, and will receive a $40 rebate in the mail soon.

I removed the OEM assembly on Saturday, which was a total PITA, thanks to my grinder taking a crap. I ended up having to use my recip saw and several blades to get through the "bolts" holding the flanges at the cat together. For the tailpipe flange, I didn't even bother...I just cut the pipe post-muffler...and then removed the tailpipe and did the flange surgery on the workbench. Much easier! Still a pain.

The new exhaust has a stainless steel canister, and heavy gauge steel piping and flanges. I replaced the rear O2 sensor since I was in there, and the original one looked completely done. Damn rust belt! I plan to spray the piping and flanges with high-temp paint this week, to help keep them lasting longer. I also used stainless bolts/nuts on the flanges.

The sound is very OEM...but does have a nice little rumble when you get on it. I was pleasantly surprised by that. It's super quiet at idle.

For $120 and a little elbow grease, I'm happy. Consider this instead of the OEM or other aftermarket systems if you want something quiet.

I was thinking about purchasing the walker quiet series. What's your overall opinon so far. My OEM one has a nice split on the seam and is ready to go anytime. Is that the best price you've found for it? What part number did you use to replace the O2 sensor?

I'll have to check which O2 sensor I bought, but it was a Denso brand. I'll get you the part number tonight.

The muffler assembly was $160 from rockauto.com, minus the $40 rebate. I doubt you'll find it cheaper than that...even if you had a cheap non-stainless muffler put on at a shop. I believe the rebate option ended May 31, though.

I've only put about 50 miles on the new exhaust, but I'm very happy with it. The build quality is great, and the fit was perfect. It is also a few pounds lighter than the OEM unit.

Im glad you posted this because I was just considering getting the same muffler since mine, like Ryani has developed a split and unlike the majority of others, I want the most quiet muffler I can find.

Mine was split along the seam as well, with a slight leak that was getting louder. Not bad for being 11 years old, I guess.

ryani, the rear O2 sensor is Denso part #234-4162. This is for a Federal emissions '99 V6. Yours may be different.

bigtimeweb, that's funny! It sounds stock, ya know? I suppose I could do a vid, although I'm not planning to drive it for another week or two (it's not my DD). If/when I do, I'll post it here.

I need to get a new exhaust soon but I want to stay quiet only with that "rumble when you are on it", which is why I was asking

Qyota, what were the Walker part number(s) for the components you replaced? I need everything you bought, plus a catalytic. I'd like to see if rockauto.com still has these prices, and if the Walker rebate is still valid.
