Need floormat suggestions

We need heavy duty floormats for the 4R.

Looking through the Performance Products catalog I found the "Husky" rubber mats, which I've purchased before, and almost bought 'em. But then I saw the "Nifty Xtreme" heavy molded-rubber mats. The photo is generic, but it looks like they form a nice custom-fit "pan" if you know what I mean. I've seen other mats like this in the past, and they looked like crap.

If anybody has purchased or seen the Nifty Xtreme mats, can you answer some questions for me before I send them my $65?

1. They look so thick that they might be cumbersome. Do they tighten-up leg room?

2. It appears you have to fasten the sides/edges to the floor somehow. Or do they hook to the carpet?

3. Are they a @$%*# to remove for cleaning?

I considered all brands. I will tell you the Toyota All weather mats looks nice, fit as if they were made for the truck [they are!], wear well, color match, have Toyota & 4Runner logo's & cost no more: $66 from Steve @ Partznet. After shipping the after market set back - that required trimming ["made for the vehicle" ??] & were almost the right color, I asked: "Why the hell did I buy anything else the 1st time?" I still ask [myself] that ? when I see mats discussed. Jes' my .02 & worth the cost.

I'm buying the Toyota ones also for the same reason. About the same price but made for the truck BY the truck maker.

What a trivial thread, but . . . what the heck.

Our Toyota parts guy said that "Husky" brand makes the Toyota OEM mats. He said, though, that they only come in medium grey or "oak" (which is a gray-brown). We wanted something BLACK which never looks dirty, and besides it would look nicer since all the interior is black and taupe.

On the Performance Products web page, they show "Husky" mats, which (in the crappy generic picture) look similar to the Toyota product and supposedly have 4runner text on them, and they DO list black as a color. I wonder if they are the same.

Guess I'll just have to take a chance and order them. If they suck, we'll just have to send 'em back and pay the freight.

I have the Extreme Catch Alls by Nifty through out the vehicle. They work great! I have the grey ones and have no problems. They are probably not better than Husky so it will have to be a personal decision. The lip on the outside edge is probably not as high as the husky brand, but this has not been a problem; still holds water.

1. The picture must make them look thick because they do not effect leg room.

2. You do not have to fasten them at all, they stay put. They do give you some carpet attachmnets but I have never used them.

3. The front and cargo is easy to remove; just pull them out and shake the dirt of or hose then down. The back seat, because of the size is not as easy but I would not consider it a problem to take in and out. I rarely have rear seat passengers so I have not removed it often.

I think we've decided to give the Nify Extreme mats a try. You mentioned you had the the same mat for your cargo space too. Does your 4runner have that double-deck platform? If so, how does that work?

I have the double decker system.
If you get the mat for the double decker system, it fits under the shelf when the shelf is up. It does not cover the plastic trays in the back where the tie down hooks are. If you put the shelf down and lay the mat on top, it is a little short; it does not go all the way to the rear seat. This is not a problem for me because I use the space between the shelf system (shelf up) and the rear seat for storage. The net that goes over the shelf holds stuff in place so when I drop the shelf the cargo does not move and the mat still fits right.

If you get the one that is not for the double decker system, it will still fit. With the shelf down, it lays on top of the shelf and covers all the space. Though because the shelf is higher than the floor, it is not flat over the plastic trays, it hangs over them with an inch or so of space under the mat. It will also fit under the shelf with the shelf up if you curl the back of the mat up (which is easy to do).

I know this is a lengthy explanation but I hope it helps.

Those Husky mats look great. I like that the rear piece goes all the way across, I don't know why the Toyota carpet floormats don't do this. They do on my 97 LX450.

But I have one question for the people with all rubber mats. What do you do when you have a lot of water in them? Like in the winters, I could foresee a lot of water builing up in the mats. Are you supposed to take the mats out and dump them each time??

I'd drop some papers on the floor and it'd get soaked in the water.

Pitbull: My carpet mats have been in the attic for a year, but if I remeber correctly, it is like the carpet mat that comes with the double decker system.

pbm317: I guess what you mean by a lot of water is from melting snow off of your boots?? Never really been a problem where I live. I do get a lot of mud and water but most of that evaporates, or I can just mop it out with a towl.

I have the double decker and the extreme cargo mat. The mat does in fact cover the same area as the carpeted mat, just slightly longer. In fact my factory carpeted mat is still in the cargo area under my extreme mat.

Personally I do not own them, but if I were to buy new floormats, it would be Husky Liners all the way.

For the rear cargo mat I bought a universal Weatertech mat from Costco for ~$29 and only had to do very minor trimming and it works great on top of the DD system or below it.

Well I ordered those custom-formed "Nifty Xtreme" mats from Performance...the ones that looked great in the photo. They were rubber, not hard plastic, but were not very flexible either. They did not fit perfectly (of course), and the bottom of each mat did not even rest flat on the floor board. So, whenever you put your feet on the mats, the bottom would push down and the sides of the "pan" would curl. It was like standing on a piece of cardboard! Hell, the little holes for the hooks didn't even line up right, and one kept popping off!

Back they went, goodbye $20 worth of shipping charges, and I vow never to order anything out of a catalogue sight-unseen again.

Ordered the Toyota mud mats yesterday. Should have done that in the first place.

I hate when that happens. I tried a pair of sneakers on at a store and figured I'd save some money and buy them online....well of course the ones I got didn't fit the same. I am very particular with what I order online anymore.

That is strange......mine fit perfect. I have never had the problems you mentioned. I work with 2 people that also have 4Runners and they ordered a set after they saw mine.

Not at all

I wonder if the "catch-all" versions that you have (which I think have a carpet-like texture, right?) are heavier or more flexible than the "Xtreme" versions (which are more like a light-weight rubber pan). Or, maybe it was just the way these particular mats were "stamped" out. At any rate, I was leaning toward ordering them before I posted the thread 'cause in the photo they looked great! Serves me right for ordering a product without seeing it somewhere first.
