One hting that bugs me is that people in the left lane usually go 5 under..... and they don't get the clue to move over to the next lane when they have piles of car behind them and none in front........

I usually go 90 on the freeway if it's clear and 5-10 miles above the speed limit on the city

In our neck of the woods (Orange County, CA) if you aren't going 80+ on the freeway you get cutoff and one-finger saluted!

So thats what that means!

where I grew up, driving 90 would just about keep you ahead of the normal flow of traffic (210, 2, and 134 freeways)

where I live now everyone drives so close to the actual speed limit , it is hard to get away with even 10 over and not stand out for the local collection agencies.

I sure don't miss the traffic times though.....

Yes but at the same time they need to pull their head out of their @ss and realize that it's inconsiderate to other drivers going slow in the fast lane.

I live in Southern Marin County, just the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. I used to work at starbucks in Mill Valley and I made GOOD friends with CHP, not bribes but .. instantly their coffee was free or made before they even got in the door. I also have met a lot of other law enforcement, I think that is the best way to speed. or maybe push the limit a little. It has saved my ass!

The only problem with that, is every employee at that Starbucks now owns those CHP officers. If anything ever happens they can say "but I gave you free coffee" and now that CHP officer gets charged with taking bribes.

I use to drive fast... Then i got my first ticket 65 in a 50, then i got my second ticket 84 in a 55 (29 over) and had to go to court. No i strictly go no more than 5-7 over. I cant afford to get another ticket. Plus im not sure i could get up to 84 now with my new tires

Ok...great story on this one...i was traveling in a 45mph zone down a hill and 2 motorcycle cops were sitting at the bottom clocking...I was doing 65mph when I saw them....Then i saw one of them put the radar down and I my friend who lost her right to drive for one 10 over and 2 five over was with me...she thought is was sweet revenge...the cop pulls out behind me lights flashing and everything so I start pulling over he goes for the car next to me...lol...I didnt get pulled over...He went after the other car....I was in shock and she WAS SO PIST!!!

On the backroads around me which are real tight backroads ill do about 40-50mph in a 25-35 zone and on the high its about 65-75mph in 55-65mph in my 4runner, in a car its faster. there are a lot of cops around me thats why we move quick on the backroads cause the main routes and interstates are loaded with cops.

Old poll but thought I would share anyways. Up here in Canada, You can do a bit of speeding on highways becasue the police are very predictable and you always know where there's a speed trap (without a radar detector), at least its like in my neck of the woods.

But in the US, jeez. I took a trip to NYC and we never knew where the next trooper was gonna be, they would drive down in the ditch and be completely hidden it was crazy. And I'm not making fun of it, I was actually pretty impessed with the amount of effort the put. But they probably have to be more sneaky because not sure on this but, radar detectors are legal?

Depends on the state. In CA, detectors are legal and CHP are very sneaky. They'll hide on the other side of the on-ramp, backup behind columns and pillars of overpasses, or sometimes just have a bank of patrol cars ready to go with one car clocking people. Usually drivers in oncoming traffic will flash their headlights as a warning that there's a speed trap.

I've gone way too fast before, and won't do it again because what they like to do now in my neck of the woods is get you for "stunting" if you are going more than 50kmph (30mph) over the speed limit. It's like $2400 and a one-week suspension. Don't ever want that, plus a 4Runner isn't the safest speed demon.

I got a nice warning for doing 75kmph in a 50kmph zone. Very nice cop, and I really don't want to pay $180 next time I'm an idiot.

On our highways? The limit is 110kmph, and generally if you do under 125 you'll never get a ticket. I find I get better mileage at 100, but I'll do 110 unless the highway is busy, or I'm in a bit of a rush. Usually keeping it between 115 and 120 makes for safer driving when it's busy.

I drive a Prius to work everyday...enough said!! (But, to be exact, i set cruise at 74 mph with limit around 65-70 mph depending on part of highway.)

80-90ish. The lift doesn't help my lunatic driving. I drive the z06 75/80ish.
