Need help. 18's or 20's

I have an 03 SR5.

My stock tires need to be replaced and I am thinking about upgrading to an 18 or 20 inch rim/tire.

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and would prefer to leave the new tire/rim combo on year round.

What combo should I go with? Does any one have experience with either and 18 or 20 inch rim package in the snow?

Thanks

I'd think in snow 20" migth not be a good idea;stick with 18s and save a little money and have more choices of tires.

I agree with RonM. With 18" rims, you get enough bling-bling, yet your tire choices will be decent. There are several companies offering off-road tire options in 18" sizes (BFG, Goodyear, etc.). Another negative for big big rims is that they will make your brakes look small...thus, i would not go any bigger than 18".

In addition, I would be cautious of ride comfort if you go bigger since the later 4runner Limiteds only have 18" rims. Thus, Toyota probably tested 18" rims and found them to provide acceptable ride comfort. Any bigger and your ride comfort might suffer.

My favorite combo (if i were to go 18"): 18" rims + BFG AT KO or Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor. Both of these tires have the snowflake-on-the-mountain symbol for severe snow conditions, which i assume is important in your neck of the woods.

Good luck and tell us what you decide.

thinking about..

I went to TireRack and have been looking at:

18 inch Zinik Z1 Shogun 18x8
265/60TR18 Goodyear Silent Armor

(About $1900 shipped)

Has anyone seen these on a 4runner?
What do you guys think about this setup?

Is this it??

Is it forged or cast?? Forged is stronger.

Personally, i like the look of the stock 18" OEM rims from Toyota.

note on the brakes...

running larger diameter rims will generally run you more overall weight and more weight on the outter rim of the wheel as well...hurting overall braking performance as well.
