Need Help!! - 1999 4runner SR5 up for salvage

Hello all -

Here is the situation. Day after christmas two kids wrecked into our garage. after taking out the door and support frame, they hit our baby (4runner) high bumper and up on the back left side. I drove it out and onto the tow truck.

My understanding is the radiator and a/c compressor were dmg in the front, along with a light, but otherwise in good shape. Most of the damage was high on the back left. They did say there is a slight bend in the frame in the back by the bumper, but nothing major.

Due to the year and the insurance companies "total" threshold of 70% or so, they are calling it a total. The estimates to fix to new are coming in between $7,100 and $9,300. Here is my problem. I am being offered $1,500 for salvage by a local body shop guy we are friends with.

Here are the cars stats:
*1999 4runner SR5 4wd (millienum silver, with grey/blue interior) with moon roof, torneau cover, 10 disc cd changer etc...
* 88,000 miles (all required maintenance performed), garage kept, never smoked in, with alot to most of the miles being highway (it was our only car and we commute to work on a bus). Truly in terrific condition.
* New tires (less than 1,000 miles) and hood and sunroof protective visors. etc...

It just seems that the price is low. I saw on ebay motors with less than 100k miles going for $1,350.

Any suggestions/advice. It just seems the truck would be worth more. Anyone interested? We are in NJ and would need to be tow close or pickup only.

I'd be interested in the front and rear suspension if the price is right!

I apprec the offer, but I am looking to move it as a whole. Unfortunately dont have the time to piece meal and ship a la carte.

I am interested in purchasing the whole runner. Can you send me some pics and tell me what you want for it? Have ypu driven it? How does it feel to you.

If they aren't your kids - go after the insurance company of the car they were driving. They will give you NADA book value plus pay for a rental car until you receive their settlement check. Mostly likely they will tow the vehicle off. My son's '96 hi mileage Subaru OB (paid $1800) for 3 months earlier was hit while parked in front of my house by a Ryder rental truck. Ryder insurance sent out investigator - said damage was $5400. They paid me NADA value of $4300 and said I could keep the vehicle and title. They gave me names of 2 salvage companies who offered $25 and $50 for the hulk. I removed the new $300 tires and radio/CD and sold the remains for $200 (could have easliy got $500+ for it by selling engine, trans, diffs - but wife wanted it gone). You shouldn't take it in the $horts - the ones causing the accident should. I'd also have your garage checked for structural damage - they should pay to repair that too. Regretfully I ended up buying a better, more costly car for my son - so profit was short lived!

Body shop/Wrecker plans to make at least 100% profit on it so their offer is in ballpark.
