need help/advice on changing out motors

i just got a 1988 toyota 4runner SR5 last night the motor is bad in it but i got a good motor with the truck to swap out the bad one there both 3.0s i wana get this truck fixed up and driving i dont have a lot of cash so i cant get different motors or anything lol just ned some tips and advise

Have you ever swapped an engine before? It's a bit of work, and it helps if you have an engine hoist, jack stands, air tools.

Youtube can be really helpful. And I am sure there is a handful of engine install threads if you search the forum. Well, maybe not a handful. Usually when you pull a 3.0l, you dont put another one back in. Good luck
 
Take plenty of pictures before of EVERYTHING. THat way you have a good reference for when it goes back together.

If your doing a 3.0, its a good idea to do headgaskets while its out of the truck, as well as timing belt and waterpump, rear main seal.. etc.
 
Does anyone know if the 3.0 trans will bolt up to the 22R? Or if there are adapters made? just a thought.
 
If your super duper lucky, you can find a turbo 22re being parted out, which used the r151f transmission, Thats the bell housing that will let you bolt a v6 (r150f) tranny to a 22re. Or use the whole r151f tranny (lower 1st gear ratio)

If you plan on putting a 22re in the place of your 3vze, youll also need to swap out all the wiring/computer/air box/ exhaust etc...

Just a question for the OP.. what went bad in the motor thats currently in it? Maybe its possible to just fix rather than replace...

well the guy already had all of the hoses and wiring unhooked basically I need to take it off of the trans and motor mounts

it was getting oil in the water and its been sitting in the truck for 7 years without running and I have the 3.0 already
 
well im dropping the trans now onl
y thing in my way is wasps lol they are attacking me and im deathy affraid of them its december and there are still wasps flying around wth!? D:

unbolt your starter and theres probably 6 bolts around the trans. pretty easy to find. is it an auto or manual? if its an auto theres a few more steps.
